My goals for 2017
Get 7- 8 Hours of Sleep Each Night
Guess who got 9 hours of sleep the past 2 nights? Me! That’s who. I don’t even know how it happened but it did and I feel great. Maybe I’m getting old, but a good nights sleep is starting to become really appealing. Also, here were are the first week in October and I’m still picking tomatoes. And that $2 sweater? Ya baby!
Oh and lets not forget the hose in the background my husband wanted to move before taking my picture. Seriously, like you don’t have a hose too? Guys are weird.
Make Saving a Priority, Not an Idea
My husband also cut his own hair. He does this like every 10 days and I keep telling him that pretty soon he is not going to have any hair left but he doesn’t listen. All I know is that it’s a good thing he cuts his own because 3 haircuts a month would be a total budget breaker if you ask me. Anyone else’s husband a cutter too?
Also… who is paying $99 for tailgate party packs?
More money saving things I’ve done this month:
Made 4 additional principal payments towards our mortgage for October.
Set the thermostat at 63 degrees {last year it was 65, the year before that it was 67} and put an extra blanket on all the beds. Plus, for the first time people are actually wearing sweaters in the house. Wahoooo! Common money saving sense… it’s kicking in.
Live a little
Mrs. HB texted me from Costco last week and said someone from the blog recognized her while she was pushing her cart into the store. I don’t know how that’s even possible because I have never shown her face on the blog. She thought maybe it was because her hair was down and she was wearing a scarf and she was talking and the person could hear her southern accent.
And then I was like OH… so you dressed up today …. well that’s good {because usually when we are out walking around the harbor it’s early and she is wearing sweats and a hat and we both look like we just wandered out of the woods or something}. Come to find out she had an early morning work appointment and that’s why she was all gussied up. So a big HELLO to the OHAM reader who spotted Mrs. HB. You made her day. 🙂 Oh, and also, another lady recognized her at the Puyallup Fair in the 4-H barn a few weeks back. Ha! Mrs. HB is becoming a regular Northwest personality I tell you.
“Live a little” – Anywho, I asked her to pick me up one of Costco’s delicious hot chocolates from the machine in the food court. And she did. Because she loves me. $1.25 down the gullet and nothing to show for it.
Visit 52 REAL Bakeries
I’ll be featuring a new bakery this week. Stay tuned.
Have 1 “no spend” week each month
Hmmm. Maybe next week?
Start a Line of Rug Hooking Patterns
Another week of me telling you I have 8 rug hooking patterns listed in my Etsy shop, and a bunch more I need to photograph and get listed. If I could just pull myself away from the dye pots it might be possible to get those patterns photographed and listed for sale. Whateva. I’ll get it done. But honestly those patterns are kinda on the back burner right now… I’ve got a massive project in the works I’m just in the beginning stages with {more details later} and it’s taking all my free time these days.
Turn My Wool Stash into $2,500.
This past week I sold $333.20 in my Etsy shop which brings my total so far this year to $9399.43. I didn’t list anything new {and most likely won’t list anything this week either, but I might if I have time}. I’m trying to come up with some sort of listing schedule {like maybe adding new items once a month or every 2 weeks} so I don’t feel this constant need to have something new in my Etsy shop every few days. Time wise it makes more sense, but I’d probably do better sales wise if I added things more often.
Then again, I am only one person, and honestly, I only have so much time to devote to hooking each night. 😉
Purge 250 Items Mission Accomplished
So far this year we have purged 265 items and I’m happy to report I’ve started another big shopping bag full of unnecessary items I plan to purge once the bag is full.

Dote on My Husband Even More Than I Do Now.
I didn’t bug my husband once about doing a house project on his day off PLUS I spent about 2 hours in the kitchen making the most amazing dinner which received rave reviews from him. It’s the little things, right?
Lose the Muffin Top. {again} Mission Accomplished
Wear out {most of} the clothing I already own.
Have you ever looked at the heels of your shoes and noticed anything funny about the way they wear? Well Dr. Google lead me to a site where I found out I have Supination (Under-pronation). Apparently I need to stretch before walking… among other things. Chalk this up to things you didn’t need to know about me but now you do.
Try 52 New Recipes
If you have a serious meat eater in your house you are going to want to check out the recipe I’ll be posting on Tuesday. My husband and son pretty much went bonkers over it.
I didn’t have a chance to listen to anything on Hoopla this week but I am going to request Memos from the Chairman from the library this week.

I usually cut my hubby’s hair but if I am out of town or he wants a full buzz he does it. Probably been doing this for 25 yrs now. He trims the back of mine too

My husband cuts his own hair, or his friend does it for him. I go to a $25 haircut guy and tip him $20–it’s still about a third of what lots of places hereabouts charge. Also, I don’t have to talk to him, which I love.

Ha! That was me! I honestly would not have even recognized her except I was there at 1pm-ish with my two little girls (who were exhausted after preschool and playing at the park for 1 hour) and I was thinking “How can Mavis like to go to Costco at 1pm? It’s too crowded!” (And yes, I know we have the least crowded Costco in the country.) And then I saw that skirt in front of me and just made a guess. Mrs. HB made MY day!

AWESOME! You totally made her day, glad to hear she made yours too. 🙂 And you’re right, I would never go to Costco at 1 pm. Ha!

Mavis–how ARE you chickens doing? Would love an update on them. Laying eggs yet or too soon?

Wondering if I’m the only person who would not approach her- I assume she wants privacy since her face doesn’t appear on the blog. Plus I think I would be pretty uncomfortable if a stranger approached me like that. Is it just me?

We started a garden of tomatoes, beans, basil, onions, kale, cucumbers and squash and planted an orchard of twenty fruit trees, strawberry plants, raspberries and transplantd gooseberries. We had a bumper crop of blueberries that filled our freezer, so we did well with getting them pruned and fertilized last spring.
Hubby is a haircutter too. He gives my boys their monthly haircuts, very meticulous using the different comb attachments, scissors and comb on the top to blend with the sides and uses the small wahl peanut clippers for the sideburns and neckline. He doesn’t just shave them bald, he isn’t lazy, he does the job right and I get compliments on how handsome they look. He does my hair every other month. I get caped, my hair combed out, pinned up in sections and ends neatly trimmed. No grabbing and chopping or yanking my hair out. I haven’t been to the salon in years, nor have my boys been to the barbershop. I figure it easily saves me a grand a year. He gets extra practice cutting ladie’s hair as his daughter has dad trim her locks, as does my mother who likes his work at the excellent price of free, as does my best friend who was visiting when I was getting a trim, told hubby he does nice work, then asked him to give her a haircut. We were going to a cookout at her house in Sepember and she reminded me to have hubby bring his hair shears. I laughed and told him she had a special request. So hubby did and we arrived early so he could give the hostess her trim on the deck (great lighting) before the other guests arrived. So hubby is a haircutter, not scissor happy, and I take it as a great compliment that my friends want to borrow my stylist.
