The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird received a Creme Brulee Kit for Christmas. She also unwrapped a bottle of Creme Brulee bubble bath on Christmas morning.Basically she is crazy for creme brulee.
My house smells like a Parisian Cafe. So it’s all good right? Have you made creme brulee before? Wait, hang on the UPS guy is here. Okay I’m back {he’s wearing long khakis today FYI}.
You should try making creme brulee at home. It’s way cheaper than going to a restaurant and paying $7.95 off the dessert menu. In fact, the only time I would ever be willing to pay $7.95 for a single serving of creme brulee was if I was in a Parisian Cafe.
Plus, if you make a yummy batch of creme brulee at home… You get to play with fire! Yee-Haw!
Burning food is cool. Just ask the HH. I do it all the time.
Ingredients
2 cups heavy cream
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Sugar for sprinkling
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325 F.
Whisk together sugar, egg yolks and vanilla until well blended. Scald the cream and very slowly pour into egg mixture, whisking constantly.
Place ramekins directly into baking dish. Fill ramekins about 3/4 full. Pour water directly into pan until it reaches about 1/2 the way up the ramekins. Place into the oven, on the middle rack and bake 20-25 minutes until set. Chill for 30 minutes.
Sprinkled chilled brulee with enough sugar to coat the top of the custards. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize sugar by moving the flame continuously over the surface in a slow, circular motion. Makes 6 1/2 cup servings. Recipe Credit: Bonjour Culinary Torch Recipe Book.
