Lucy is officially 3 months old. Yesterday I took her to the vet for her second round of vaccinations. She was incredibly brave and thought the whole thing was one big adventure.
She didn’t even cry when the vet gave her a shot, took her temperature, or combed her coat for fleas {?}. I however looked the other way during the whole process. Even when the nice veterinarian asked me if I had brought her a sample. Ewwwwww.
No. I forgot. I’m Sorry. I’ll try and remember next time, I muttered.
Then Lucy and I went home.
I re-potted some kale and ate sliced peaches out of a can.
Lucy chewed on the door mat.
Life is good. I love this sweet little dog more than I ever thought I could. She is such a great companion, even though she needs constant attention and likes to bite my socks.
Since moving her bed into the crate {like many of you suggested} she now has plenty of room to run around and play. Every morning I set her toys outside of her crate, and every night when we put her to bed she drags all her stuffed animals back to bed with her just like a little kid.
I’m guessing this is totally normal, and we should start to see cat and dog fancy posters up on the sides of her fence anytime soon.
Animals are cool.

I love your Lucy posts! She will add so much to your life. I picture you in your Pilgrim costume, Lucy at your side, handing out carrots!

Mavis, she is just the cutest little dog.
When we got our 4-month old puppy in January of ’12, he took off the minute we took him out of the car and set him on the ground. There are woods all along the back part of our and our neighbors’ property and that’s where he headed. We looked until 10 that night and had lots of help, but a black doggy is not easy to spot in the woods. We were so worried about the cold and coyotes. We left out food for him and noticed the next morning that he had come up to eat it. That afternoon, when I saw him slowly coming up for the food, I waited until he was finished and then was able to coax him to me. He’s turned out to be a great dog (German shepherd).
Good luck with your puppy romping and digging around in your gardens! Our dog is just starting to settle down from that fun.

Yikes! I’m glad your puppy came back to you. That must have been very worrisome. ๐

that puppy is almost as cute as your chickens…I’m partial to the chickens though!

Lucy will add so much to your life — she will be a great partner in the garden. But most of all, she will provide you with unconditional love and much laughter. Enjoy!

Has Lucy met the chickens?

I love Lucy updates too. In fact I’ve been waiting for the Lucy/chicken story you hinted about in your earlier Lucy post ๐

I love your Lucy updates as well. Reminded me of when I took my two boys through their puppy shots. I’ve the best picture ever of this, but I’m at work and can’t post it now (otherwise I’d share).
Now is time, while she is a puppy to get her used to having your fingers in her mouth. It serves multiple uses: 1) you teach her that if she closes her teeth too hard that it hurts you. If she does this: yelp, cry put up a fuss. If her mom didn’t teach her this already, you can by doing this. 2) It will be a precursor, to being able to brush Lucy’s teeth. Even with bone chewing, some dogs develop tooth and gum disease. Simple tooth brushing can lessen this from happening.
Pet dental work is horridly expensive, so a little preventative action on your part can save BIG BUCKS!

I agree- come to think of it ANY dental is expensive!! I have my dog’s teeth cleaned once a year through a discount dental clinic [found them through meetup.com and a small dog group- some smaller dogs are prone to dental issues].
Brushing early is an excellent idea Diane! Also, gotta take the sample in Mavis- just to make sure she does not have some sort of parasite.
What a cute baby she is!!! Thanks for the pics!

Her markings make her look like a miniature Bull Mastiff, I think she’s adorable.
