Yesterday I stopped by The Garden Sphere in Tacoma to pick up 3 new baby blue cochin chicks. I special ordered these a few months ago and I think they are going to make a neat addition to our feathered flock. Do you see the feathers on those tiny chicken legs?
Once I got the chicks settled, Lucy and I sat on a crate in the garage peering into their make shift coop. She is in love, and thinks the chicks are hers. Each time we have gone out to the garage since bringing the chicks home Lucy dashes over and sits next to their bin, waiting to say hello. Ahhhh it’s so cute I can hardly stand it.
This is what the hens are suppose to look like once they are fully grown. Aren’t they gorgeous? Talk about a show bird. I bet I could win some blue ribbons with these babies. The Girl hasn’t named the chicks yet but I’ll let you know as soon as she does.
I would have take a few more pictures to show you but the lighting is bad in the garage, and the chicks seemed pretty tired from their journey. I didn’t want to stress them by handling them to much.
But I promise more pictures in a few days.
Will YOU be bringing home new chicks this spring? If so, what breed are you thinking about?

Wow Cochins. Those are going to be majorly different for you. They are super friendly but can be muddy with those feathered legs. I have five 4 week old black Java’s right now that I am super excited to add to my flock!

Blue chickens are awesome genetically. When 2 blues are crossed you end up with half the chicks looking like mom and dad, a quarter black ones, and a quarter if them a color known as splash, which is a white chicken with black/blue ‘splashes’ of color!

I can’t have chickens yet, my dog is a hunter and would go crazy over them. She’s older so when her time has come I might look into them.

We need a couple of more chicks this spring – the old girls are laying poorly. I think we’ll get more Buckeyes.
We do have one Blue Cochin and she (Violet) is an absolute doll She was our most broody hen though. A couple of years ago, I bought fertilized eggs for her, but she was unable to hatch any out. Now when she gets broody we just go and pick her up off the nest, like five times a day!
Enjoy!

We ended up hatching out 21 chicks last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (out of 25 eggs) … most are Easter Eggers, a few Olive Eggers, and 2 RIR x Black Copper Marans (and they are SUPER cute!!!) … all were from our own chickens here … so exciting.

We have 8 new chicks. They are 4 weeks old. My husband is getting tired of having them in the house so I think they will move to inside the barn soon. I’m not certain at what age I can begin slowly introducing them to my older chickens?

Cochins are one of my favorite chicken breeds. We have four types of cochins. We put about 30 cochin eggs in our incubator earlier this week. Hopefully we will have a bunch of babies in about three weeks.

We have two new babies this year, a Light Brahma (“Gumbo”) and a Plymouth Barred Rock (“Star”). They are 4-5 weeks old. In a few months, they will join our one-year-old girls, a RIR (“Pot-Pie”), an Austrolorp (“Midnight”), and an Easter Egger (“Sam”) outside in the Chicken McMansion we built last year. 🙂

Their so fluffy I´m going to die!!! LOL. Got 3 eggs in an incubator that I bought and forgot that I bough. I have 4 four week olds in my kitchen recovering from a bacterial infection that made them stink to high hell but are much better now. Will be posting photos tomorrow with an update of my seedlings as well.
