Panera $21.43
When you’re sick, and craving a sandwich and hot soup {that someone else made}, Panera is pretty much the best place ever. Even if you are a total weirdo and would rather eat lunch in your car in the library parking lot because you know…. a crowed restaurant with too many people is just to much to handle when you and your daughter are both not feeling well. 😉
The boys were out of town for 3 days last week and The Girl and I pretty much lived off apples, cheese, crackers, salami and hard boiled eggs.
I traded Mrs. HB 4 pounds of sugar for a box of tea.
She gave me a chocolate bar {I only like to eat chocolate when I have hot liquid to wash it down with} from her secret stash and told me not to tell Mr. HB that she has one {a secret candy stash}. Hmmm. He used to read the blog, I wonder if he still does? Bahahhaa.
I really think she needs to get out more.
Trader Joe’s $16.95
The boys needed food. I didn’t feel like cooking so I popped by Trader Joe’s for a few ready made meals. Totally not frugal at all, right? But you know, sometimes you just have to live on the edge.
Fred Meyer $7.93
Fred Meyer had milk on sale last week for $0.99 a half gallon and peanut butter for $1.49 a jar. I also picked a few more milks for Monkey Boy’s new place.
Did you get any Fred Meyer coupons in the mail last week? I’m not sure if this was sent out to everyone who has one of their shopper cards or if it was a totally random thing but we received coupons for a free dozen of eggs and a 10.3 ounce container of nuts. Hey, I’ll take it!
Winco $44.37
I know I’ve said it a million times, but if you are looking for a no frills {and I do mean NO frills} grocery store that consistently has good prices, Winco is that store. Plus, their canned tuna, pickled beets and chili beans are fantastic.
I don’t even know why I bother with lettuce.
More hot soup.
And brownies, because sugar is life.
Mexican Restaurant $27.00
For the second time this year the HH and I hung out at a bar. To watch a game on their cable tv. I am totally not a bar person, so I always find sitting in one a little awkward and I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to be ordering water in there. But hey, if it keeps us from having a cable bill, I can do it 2 -3 times a year so my husband can watch the world series or a football game or whatever.
Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow. Do the take out and ready made meal thing when you are feeling miserable and sit next to biker’s in leather jackets with giant patches on them once in awhile.
It keeps life interesting. 😉

We have Kroger here (part of same group as Fred Meyer) and I get those coupon packs a couple of times a year. Always 2 free items (often 1 lb of ground beef and a package of pork breakfast sausage for me) and other useful coupons. It has to be based on what you normally buy but haven’t in a while because I can’t recalling having a coupon in there for something I haven’t bought. The butter coupon is always nice (and used). Sometimes I go into the store just to use the coupons (and to get a London Fog from the Starbucks in the store).

I get the coupons, as they come with my quarterly rebate. However, I never get the FREE coupons. Did you also get a rebate? If not, maybe they send those in lieu of a rebate if you did not reach the threshold for receiving the rebate.
Michelle says
I got a rebate but no free items. It must be one or the other or maybe regional.

When I’m feeling as miserable as I think you’ve been, I stay in bed for at least 2 days more if I’m not better. It works for me and I don’t end up with pneumonia. We eat what’s on hand, my husband or daughter head to the store and cook. Life goes on and I’m better faster 🙂

Poor Mrs.HB. Remind me not to share a secret with you Mavis..hahaha..Oh, and I’ve been paying $1.14 a gallon for milk the last six weeks. And $1.20 for box of 5 doz large eggs. Just this past week though it was raised to $1.30.

I noticed the hard boiled eggs in your salad have the “green ring” around the yolk. Have you tried steaming the eggs? America’s Test Kitchen did a segment on it and – WOW! It’s a no-brainer. So much easier to make and peel. A little water in a pot, a steamer basket and eggs. 13 minutes later done with no ring. It’s definitely worth trying.

Are you out of freezer meals?

Have you checked into getting an antenna for tv? My husband installed one on the back of our house, so it can only be seen by one neighbor if they are in their back yard. We get over 40 stations, including the major network stations. The antenna and the wiring cost less than $100 and has saved us $40+ per month for 3 years. I have two sons who love to watch sports and many games are on the major networks, so it isn’t very often that they are inviting themselves over to friend’s houses with ESPN.
