Spoiler alert! I didn’t buy any groceries this week.
But I did spend a crack ton on eating out. Which is something I don’t often do so it was really kind of a fun week. Here’s the rad part: I have ZERO regrets. I LOVED everything I consumed.
Mrs. HB’s Mama is in town for two weeks so we thought we’d take her to The Grey House {our new favorite spot!}. Mrs. HB asked me to pixel her face because she is a professional and works with the public. That, and the fact she doesn’t want to be recognized in the stores for not putting her toilet seat down. Baaahahahaha! Having a friend with a blog can be such a drag sometimes. 😉
Oh, and let’s take a moment to notice that Mrs. HB is wearing a scarf at the table. I have a thing about scarves. I think they look nice on people. Mrs. HB is always dressing herself up with a scarf. My mother wears them. I want to be a scarf person, I really do, but they freak me out.
I don’t like things around my neck, my wrists {watches or bracelets} or other jingle jangle things that hang off a person {me}. What if they were to get caught in something? Like heavy machinery, a door, or who knows what? So how is it, that I can put my hair up in a ponytail and not get freaked out about that? It’s a mystery to me.
Anwho, the service was AWESOME. The food was even better the second time around.
And the bread pudding and coconut pie… divine. The Grey House. You must go there. The food is delicious.
This is Frank. He sell the worlds greatest muffins in Anacortes. I’ll tell you more about him and his muffins later this week when I feature his shop on the blog.
And then there was that $32 pie lady.
We bought 2 and just finished polishing them off yesterday for breakfast.
She also just started making cheese. I have a feeling it’s going to sell well.
Other {less exciting} food I ate this week:
- Lentil Soup
- Fajitas with homemade tortillas
- Orzo Salad with pesto and sundried tomatoes
- Chicken enchiladas
- Quiche
- Breaded chicken and mashed potatoes
It was a crazy fun week with lot’s of yummy food and I didn’t even have to walk into a grocery store to buy anything.

When you go to Anacortes again, there’s a place near the end of town that is called Ghere a deli. (or some spelling like that). It’s a sweet bakery, sandwhich shop. MY favorite thing there is this bar with pecan on top and maple syrup that has been carmelized. A friend of mine that’s boss in the kitchen tried to recreate it and she was stumped. She said it’s a pretty common recipe but there’s is SO GOOD.
Let me know what you think.

The Gere Deli is my fave!! The Fidalgo Cookies (think kitchen sink) are to die for as well!!

I’m with you on the scarves! I like the look of them and you can do so many clothing combinations with them, but I don’t really like things around my neck! No to turtlenecks (a “mock” tneck is ok), chokers (gag!), scarves. Though, oddly enough, I don’t mind necklaces. On another note, I’m going to need to start making a list for all the places in WA I want to visit–The Grey House will be at the top of the list!

I love and adore the shop with muffins (I’ll keep it a secret until your post) in Anacortes!! I am lucky enough that my in-laws live in Anacortes, so know that shop well! We also thoroughly enjoy our breakfast or lunch at the Calico Cupboard. They make scrumptious food and have delicious fresh bread and baked goods too!

I’m just like you Mavis. I so admire the way hats and scarves look on others but every time I try to wear them, I feel ridiculous and conspicuous. Plus, I have super curly hair and I get the worst hat-head you have ever seen. I can’t wear necklaces because the clasp always catches on the baby curls on the nape of my neck. I have issues with my wrists so I can’t wear bracelets. Sigh, I will just never look fashionable.
