Someone. Please. Please take my car keys away so I can’t get in my car and drive to our local nursery or The Home Depot and buy more plants.
I’m begging you. Now that the fence is up… I can’t stop.
I need an intervention. Like pronto Tonto.
Yesterday I planted a boxwood hedge in the front garden bed. And then I added a row of petunias and then romaine lettuce. I may have also planted some other plant crack as well but I’m keeping it on the down low in case someone from the HOA is reading this.
I even planted KALE!!! {I told you I need an intervention!}
Oh, and I planted about 100 petunias in another front bed. I had scattered some perennial seeds in the same spot a while back but they are talking their own sweet time. I figure by next summer I’ll have a full on perennial flower bed and won’t need to {waste} spend money on annuals to brighten up the space.
Espalier pear trees? Check.
Wisteria… getting planted today.
And the second 5’x10′ garden box should be in place {and filled} by this evening as well.
I’m thinking about asking stroller mom if I can borrow her headlamp so I can get more planting time in. I mean come one… only 15 hours of sunlight? What’s the deal with that. I need MORE TIME.
Meanwhile, Lucy the puggle princess has taken up bird watching and is having a great time soaking up her new backyard.
Happiness. It’s kind of a cool thing.

I am so excited for you! And Lucy too, of course. 🙂
Your bird-watching comment got me thinking- Has Lucy shown any interest in your pink plastic flock?
Mavis says
She was curious at first, but she lost interest in them pretty quick when they didn’t interact with her. Ha!
Vanessa says
Planting by headlight – it works so well when there are too few hours in the day for so much planting!!
Mavis says
Genius idea!
Diane says
Hallelujah for Lucy (AND for you)! I’d write more, but I have to get back out into the yard to plant things. You’re on your own for the intervention. HA!
Mavis says
You’re the worst kind of interventionist!! You’re just encouraging my addiction!
Beth S. says
How’s that personal spending budget going? Sorry-tough love!
Mavis Butterfield says
Really good actually. The plants come out of my gardening budget. 🙂 Yay for that!
Jenny says
Our beagle started out sitting like this watching the birds. Then he started climbing the trees to get to the birds. I had no idea that beagles climbed like that. Those birds will have to watch out!

KALE??? You have lost it, haven’t you?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. Yes I have.
Mona says
Plant on sister, plant on.

When you’re only spending a 100 bucks a month for food, you can splurge on the plants. Happy Gardening.

When I lived with my mother, I planted a huge veggie garden just to the east of the garage and then had the handyman put flood lights on the side of the garage for me. I worked second shift so I was never home during the daylight hours. And I did a lot of weeding in the middle of the night…it worked!
Mavis Butterfield says
I love it!

I’m chuckling at the heavy coat you’re wearing. I spent the weekend in the garden/yard too. Only I wore a tank top and shorts and was still wringing wet with sweat. Highs in the 90’s for the past 2 weeks. And ZERO rain…….:(
Mavis Butterfield says
I am always cold. When it starts to hit 70 though I tend to shed the coat. 😉 90 degrees…. wowza! I.Would.Melt.

So great seeing the madness going on – but I truly loved that last photo of Lucy admiring the fence! (ok she was bird watching, but it looks like she is paying homage to the structure that has given her freedom!)
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! I love that take on the picture Lisa. Lucy is thrilled with her new fence {and freedom}.

The fence. looks. awesome. I am so excited for you. My dogs went wild when mine was finished last year.
As for headlamps, look in the safety section at Home Depot – near the gloves , safety glasses and such. They have a headlamp that has 3 different settings, is LED (so batteries last a LOOOOONG time) and has an elastic band for around your head. I use mine all the time. Then again, spread out some of the gardening goodness. I mean, now that the remodel is done, when you finish the creation of the garden and the planting, what will you do with all of that free time? 🙂
Sherry says
SO happy for Lucy and for you…..YAY for the fence!! Happy gardening!
Meg says
I feel your pain. I do a patio garden at work in addition to my garden at home and they are threatening to send me to plant rehab if I don’t stop. I keep telling them, plants are cheaper than both therapy and bail…

You had a headlamp recently in one of your Amazon Deal posts!
