Jeanie says
I adore Fall. I love the mums, the pumpkins and the cornstalks to decorate outside. Even though I no longer have littles, I love Halloween and trick or treaters. I like to hand out candy dressed as a witch and then pack all the Halloween away and prepare for my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. I like cozy mornings and the firepit at night. I truly love that the rainy weather and cooler temps give all my summer flowers a last burst of glory before I have to yank.them out and think about planting fall bulbs. I especially like Fall cleaning more than Spring cleaning. For some reason Fall makes me lean toward minimalism.

It feels so relaxing to pull my jeans on, a down vest, or fleece. We had our first fire this weekend, and it isn’t to hot for soup for dinner! We also do most of our hiking between now and when it gets sunny again. I may not always love the constant rain in the PNW, but it does make you slow down the pace some.
Sue P says
Absolute favorite part is to sit on the porch with a cup of coffee while wearing slippers and breathe in deeply the wonderful smells of the crisp air, colorful leaves (yes there is a smell!!), while watching Squirrels running around hiding their winter food. My birthday is in October and I have always felt a closeness to Autumn more than any other season. No flower garden can match the beauty of changing leaves. Autumn is a new beginning….a time for hope and expectation of what lies ahead….a time for families to gather together. It’s a time for soups and stews to simmer on the stove top and cinnamon scented pinecones to fill your home with Autumn goodness rivaled only by the baked goods coming out of the oven. I could go on and on……but I think I’ll stop and go make a cup of cinnamon tea instead! Thank you for this chance to share!

It’s a time of rest and renewal, a time of harvest and gratitude. That first taste and feel of Fall is my very favorite event of the year!
Claudia A Uccello says
I’ve always said fall is your reward for making it through the hot steamy August. The cool crisp weather and beautiful color of the leaves hides the prospect of snow and ice!!
Robin says
There are numerous things to love about fall, including more comfortable temps and humidity levels which to me mean better sleep and more energy, plus apple-everything. If this is about choosing just one, then I pick the color. In summer the fields and trees are green. In fall, they explode in a multitude of colors and textures. Some plants dry up and add the pleasing browns and oranges of seed pods, dead flower heads and stems to the landscape. Others bloom in yellows, purples and white. Farmers begin to plow fields, creating patterns of mowed and not-yet-mowed in contrasting greens, yellows, golds, and browns. And then there are the trees, particularly the maples, adding a palette of greens, reds, golds, oranges and purples to the mix. Yep, color. It’s a good thing photos are digital these days or I’d be spending a small fortune on film.
Peggy says

I love everything about fall, coolness outside, the rain, blankets on the couch, the colors of the trees, pumpkins all around, but my most favorite thing is to make soup, any and all kinds of it. Usually with no recipe or I start to follow one and start adding more and more.
P.S. Got to add an extra idea since I never win these things anyway, last year for Christmas I made my single nephews soup for Christmas. When they left for home they each had about 20 containers of 5 kinds of soup to warm up tor meals and they have thanked me many many times and want to do again. Warms my heart.
Anne Lundgren says
I love fall as it is a season of change. It is still pretty warm (80/90’s) here in Charleston,SC and we will be dealing with tropical weather later this week. Mosquitoes and gnats are out in full force. It has started to cool down and by Thanksgiving we might have a bit of leaf color. However, every year I feel butterflies for this change of season no matter how slight is it. Maybe it is my favorite because it also is starts off all of the wonderful holiday seasons and special time with family.

The smell of the forest in the fall is amazing and I love watching the kids hunt for the “perfect” pumpkin. On a side not, I visited the King Arthur Flour store for the first time, on my way back home from a trip out east and it was fantastic! I could have spent a couple of hours in there. I would never have known about it if it wasn’t for you mentioning it on your blog a little while back, so thank you!

Fall, and in particular October, have always been my favorite time of year. Being from Michigan, originally, I can remember driving up to Traverse City and Petoskey to see the trees with their fall clothes on. The scarlet reds and iridescent oranges and yellows were always awe inspiring. One year, I was driving across the upper peninsula, heading West, when the sun started to set. I literally stopped in the middle of the road and sat on the hood of my car (yes, it was that barren, lol) and watched the sun go down. Most of the trees were scarlet and combined with the setting sun, it was breathtaking. I’ve always wanted to go back and see that again…
Dang it, now I want to move back North, lol. Georgia’s got NUTHIN’ on the North when it comes to fall colors, lol…
Staci Wickard says

Homecoming dances!! My last child is in high school and we love all the activities surrounding FALL at the school. The best part- a girl asked my son to the homecoming dance and she left a sign and cookies to ask him to the dance, not on our porch, but on our neighbors behind us porch last night (by mistake). My neighbor called this morning apologizing that she ate the cookies without looking at the sign to see who it was from! HAHA
Melinda W says
I love that it’s warm enough that I don’t have to worry about my outside animals needing additional heat or dealing with freezing water, but cool enough that I can play outside in the garden or travel with the convertible top down and not melt. Fall in central Louisiana… the minute the temperature drops even a little, the gumbo pot comes out and the smell of chicken and sausage gumbo simmering on the stove draws everyone into the kitchen. Peggy Lannon says
Here in Florida it gets pretty breezy and I love to open all the windows and do a deep cleaning. My absolutely favorite thing about fall is watching the trees turn red and yellow and orange. It happens so slowly at first, a couple leaves here and there. Then the pace quickens but there are days, maybe a week or more of gorgeous color. As the leaves start falling and the trees gradually bare, there is such a general wistfulness, the earth sighing. Thank you, you breathe, for this beautiful and meaningful show.

Ann Harrer says
I live in SoCal and so we don’t really have seasons besides fire and mudslide…sometimes earthquake season. But, there is a small window during the Fall when the morning temperatures are in the low 60s and there is a fog/marine layer that makes it feel like a NE Fall day for about 2.5 hours before the sun breaks through the fog and heats up the day to a lovely 75-80 degrees. Its these few days/weeks of the year that I can really enjoy hot coffee…and pretend that I live in a location that actually has seasons.

Crisp nights, smell of the fallen leaves, getting cozy by the fireplace while reading a good book and the sound of the marching band at the h.s. football field across the street.
Athena says
I love the weather in the fall. How it starts getting cooler, the summer heat is gone yet the days start cool enough for a light jacket and then the sun comes out and mid-day it’s warm enough to not need it, only to cool off again at night. It might rain, it might even snow if there happens to be an early cold snap, but for the most part it’s a comfortably cool temp and all those sweaters I’ve stashed in the top of the closet can be taken down and worn in the mornings and evenings. We spent the last 4 years in North Texas where we didn’t really have a fall. We’d maybe get fall weather for 3-4 days in a row before it went back to temps in the 80’s and sunny. We’re back in Idaho and I could not be happier about the fall weather! I just LOVE it! I also love the changing colors of this season and all the reds, oranges and yellows I see but my favorite favorite is the weather! Oh how I’ve missed fall weather!
Natasha Galbreath says

So many intriguing things change with the season. No more overheating, but not freezing your bits yet either.
Shirley Kubinak says
I love the Fall because of the cooler weather that it brings but most of all are the wonderful memories that come with it. Years ago my husband and I used to take overnight road trips into PA looking at all the trees turning and stopping into all the neat little country shops. It really was one of my favorite things we did each year. I treasure these memories even more now that I am widowed. Every time the season changes to Fall, I have all these amazing memories! It really is a wonderful time of year.

So many things to love! I dont care what anyone says, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! There is beauty everywhere. For me, it’s all about the floor. I love the way the leaves fall in a confetti of brilliant colored tissue paper that crunches and sways under your feet. I love that mushroom peek their bashful caps between a blanket of color. Being from Ca, where everything is brown, and moving to the PNW where the floor comes alive with color, I think I walk staring at the floor throughout the fall season.
Lori says

Cooler weather and holiday food.
Cathi says
I love fall for the cool mornings and evenings with sunny days, the great foods that are around (yay for soups!), and the colours.
But my favorite thing is crunching the fallen leaves! It doesn’t happen too often here (Lower Mainland of BC) because of fall rains but when it does I am a leaf crunching crazy person!

The changing of the leaves is lovely but what I truly love about Fall is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta which is always the 1st ans 2nd weekend in October. There is nothing better than seeing these balloons fill and fly over our sunny skies. We tend to cool down to Fall like weather and the Balloon Glows and special shapes are just fun for kids or those that are kids at heart. There is a reason it is the most photographed event of the year. One of those things you just have to experience as least once in your life.
Denise Kruse says
The leaves! I love their colors. Watching them spiral through the air as they fall from the trees, going on long drives to see them in their glory, feeling like a kid as I kick them while walking. I deliberately drive through the piles along our road so I can see them fly into the blue sky. Raking them into gorgeous piles of orangeness. The leaves!

Hi Mavis,
With Fall upon the Northern hemisphere, and myself enjoying long days in my garden in South Africa’s warm spring, Your Fall brings me back to my high school days of misty rains, slippery hallways and the smell of musty jackets fresh from the hall closet. With Fall comes Homecoming week and all its amazing sights, sounds and smells. Lightly coloured fingers from damp crepe paper used to build floats, the tummy comfort of hot chocolate, the rubber squeak of the cheerleaders gym shoes, and the muffled clump of football helmets knocking one against the other. What reigns on high during this week for me is the amazing scent and creamy yellow colour of the chrysanthemum corsages. I remember inching towards fellow female classmates just to inhale the luscious bloom, that full flavour and scent mixed in with the scent of damp soil, disinfected hallways, and the weary sportsmen with their ever-cheery cheerleaders. ah, Fall in the Midwest!
Kristi M says

I love how everything slows down. It’s like the weather gives you permission to relax and cozy up after the rush and constant activities of summer. My favorite thing about fall is the way it smells and looks here in New England! I moved to Florida for a few years, and really missed that. The first fall I was in Florida, my mother gathered leaves from her yard in Massachusetts and mailed them to me. I put them all in a picture frame, which I still have years later. The colors have faded, but it’s one of my most favorite items in my house.

My absolute, most favorite thing about fall is my October birthday. It reminds me to be grateful for another year gained (67 total), and plan a future year of more gardening, traveling, learning, writing and spending time with my loving family. I mull all this over in front of a fire with a hot drink, while watching rabbits (against a backdrop of changing colors) nibble up garden remnants outside my window. Fall doesn’t get any better or simpler than this!
