Have you ever stopped to notice that there is a holiday {or day of observation} dedicated to just about everything? Holy buckets, if we actually go to celebrate every single one of them, it would be one non-stop party. Still, it seems a waste to not at least pay my respects to a couple of the top contenders {I’m talking to you National Donut Day!}
This year, I’ve picked a couple of my favorites each month to celebrate. Maybe I’ll hang streamers, maybe I’ll send cards…maybe I’ll just go ahead and pour myself a tall glass of whatever we’re supposed to be celebrating. Afterall, life is short, and our National calendar is full. Let’s make the most of it, shall we?
April 7th is National No Housework Day. Dirty dishes in the sink? An unmade bed? No plans for dinner tonight? Forget about it. No need to worry today. You get the day off–which means that the kids will have to wear dirty socks and eat cereal for dinner. It’s a national mandate. Well, at least, if anyone asks, that’s what I am calling it. So, crawl back into bed. It will all be waiting for you tomorrow, but for now, you get the day off.
Ready for some fun facts about housework? Is there such thing?
- If stay-at-home moms were paid hourly for their domestic labor, their annual income would right around $118,905.
- Women spend right around 6 hours a week performing housework {not including child-rearing, home maintenance, paying bills, etc.}
- Men spend right around 3 hours a week performing housework {no comment}.
- 70%-80% of dust in your home is from dead skin cells. The other 20% comes from outdoor dirt coming in. {Gross}
HH, I hope you have the number to a good pizza delivery joint, because mama is celebrating.
Now what are you waiting for? Get out there and celebrate!

Well doggone it! I am on the east coast and saw this too late to sidestep the work! I am certain I spend more that 6 hours a week on housework!

I think I do at least 6 hour of laundry a week! and that’s without ironing. 🙂

Too late! I am up at 4;30 am and so far this morning I have:
Made the bed
Washed, dried and folded laundry
Made homemade chocolate chip cookies
Baked chicken (we are supposed to get to 80 degrees today here in SW WA)
Swept the kitchen and laundry room
Emptied all the wastebaskets (tomorrow is garbage day)
Watered the areas where DH replanted grass that died last summer from not watering

And unloaded the dishwasher 🙂

Too Late!
Fed, watered dog. Made bed. Tamales out of the freezer for dinner. Swept kitchen. Grocery list. Store later. Trash cans/recycling to street. I’m tired already! No rest for the weary. Sigh…

Can we have a ‘do over’ tomorrow?

It’s also National Beer Day, which seems to go along perfect with National No Housework Day. So tonight when I get home from work I guess I will be drinking beer and not doing housework. 😉

I was going to point out national beer day too. Seems a little coincidental that they fall on the same day…

This is a glorious idea, but right now I have three teenagers at home for spring break. If I didn’t consta-clean, there’s be a mountain of chores so massive, I’d never recover 😉
