How did you decide on where to start for a blog or starting your own website ? Do you have some ideas for me to look at. I’m a single mom with two boys and would like to start something but feel overwhelmed when looking around. But I remember coming upon your blog along time ago and another one that I liked so I thought I would ask for suggestions. any scrappy detail would help.

I was just wondering what you make your fairy roofs out of?
~Deb
The fairy house pictured above was a gift but I like to use eucalyptus leaves and moss when I make them. Makes them not only adorable but also free! My favorite kind of price.
I haven’t gotten your email for several days. Have you changed your subscription service? I don’t think any things changed on my end and I miss your blog!
~ Greta
The subscription service hasn’t changed, but I’m wondering if there was a glitch somehow with the site redesign. I’d suggest signing up again if it will allow it. Simply input your email address at the top of the site {or head HERE} and hopefully it will fix the problem. You can also sign up for updates a ton of other ways by heading HERE. Hope that works!
I absolutely love your page, from the design to the warmth of your posts and genuinely great advice. Thank you 🙂

Awww shucks! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I have the best readers, ever. Thanks for taking time out of your day to message me. Puts a little pep in my step!
Hi Mavis- I was struck by your remark that you would restuff the sofa cushions when the time comes. My sofa, while structurally sound, has the same problem of crushed cushions and also torn and stained fabric. I got a quote for a professional restoration and for that I may as well buy a new sofa, but I hate to throw something away that is still basically good. Can you share your tips and techniques? Thanks for all the great information you provide.
~Leah
Because I don’t want to spend a DIME… I plan on removing the stuffing from our old {bed} pillows, and using it to firm up the pillow cushions when it comes time to list our house. I did a trial run on one pillow and it worked great. Simply open up a seam, stuff it and sew it back up. If you have zippered pillows it would be even easier!
Hi Mavis, I received a variety of essential oils as a Christmas gift. What are some uses for them? Do you make any cleaning products using essential oils? Thank you!
~ Julie
So many essential oil uses, so little time. I use the stuff for EVERYTHING! From , a toilet paper roll fragrance, to curbing car sickness or headaches, making homemade laundry detergent tabs (or powder), body scrub, carpet deodorizer, natural air freshener, and many more. Any of my lovely readers out there have some suggestions for, Julie?
Have a question for me? Submit them HERE and I’ll try to answer them.

One oil that save my children a lot of pain, and me walking the floor, was Spirit of Peppermint. I bought it at Wal-Mart with the birth of each one. It flat out prevents colic. They don’t get gassy either. It is one drop, for every four ounces of water. Later I used it on my grandkids as well, and told them to get it for their kids, too. I learned it from my grandmother, so it’s been around for a while.

Re: The Sofa fix. The US Govt has brochures on how to do about everything. Used to able to mail order them. Think now it’s a download. There are some wonderful, though old, ones on how to redo furniture and make your own custom slipcovers. While the pictures/drawings definitely show the age the brochure, the info is still accurate. I’ve reupholstered chairs, foot stools and high chairs. Take a big gulp and try it! It’s not a one-day activity, and depending on what you are doing, some arm strength is required. [At this point in my life, I don’t have the hand or arm strength but my kids do, So they are a must to be around when I’m doing a project.] Supplies can be easily ordered online. Good Luck!

Occasionally my emails from Mavis stop showing up. I just sign up again. It usually happens every six months or so. Also helps to follow on my Facebook feed too.

About the essential oils-they should only be used for health issues if they are therapeutic grade oils, if not then only for fragrance and cleaning. That said, hopewelloils.com is an excellent resource for education and use of oils.

Essential oils…I like to put a few drops in my floor cleaning water. Makes the house smell nice but not too perfumey!

I’ve re stuffed my couch cushions too. It works well. In addition, I took the seat cushion covers off (thankfully they unzip!) and threw them in the washer. I figured I had nothing to lose since they looked so bad. I had spot cleaned them but they needed something more. I was amazed at how clean/new they looked after a good wash. I did hang them up to dry. I guess it depends on what kind of fabric your couch is made of but like I said, ours was so gross I figured it couldn’t look any worse!! And at least it would be clean.
