Have you ever stopped to notice that there is a holiday {or day of observation} dedicated to just about everything?
This year, I’ve picked a couple of my favorites each month to celebrate. Maybe I’ll hang streamers, maybe I’ll send cards…maybe I’ll just go ahead and pour myself a tall glass of whatever we’re supposed to be celebrating. Afterall, life is short, and our National calendar is full. Let’s make the most of it, shall we?
I love that we devote whole days to one very specific kind of food. We Americans really love our food, eh? More specifically, we reaaallly love our sweets. In all of my searching, I don’t remember seeing National Broccoli Day. Who am I to complain, though? I happen to love ice cream…and cookies…and smooshing them together. So, I guess what I am saying is that silly or not, I am totally on board with this holiday.
While handmade ice cream sandwiches were peddled on the Jersey Shore for a penny each as early as 1905 {at that price, I’d take 10}, they didn’t officially hit the mass production lines until 1945. Once they were commercially available, though, they were an immediate hit. So much so, that ice cream sandwiches are the second best-selling ice cream involved treat to this day. Ain’t random facts fun?
Whether you decide to grab a box out of your grocers freezer or whip up some of your own, don’t let this magical day of celebration pass you by. I mean, afterall, it does only come once a year ;).
Now what are you waiting for? Get out there and celebrate!
