Maybe I’m just a major wimp, but baby it’s cold out there!
It seems like everyone I have talked to is sick, has been sick, or is waiting to get sick. I’m thinking now might be a good time to buy a bunch of my favorite Puff’s Plus Lotion Tissues and hang on to them in case there is some sort of tissue shortage across America. It’s been like 5 days, and I still feel like crap!
All the bird baths in town have frozen over.
The decorative grasses people have planted in their yards is all frozen, and has little icicle hairs standing up on the blades.
And the chickens, the poor, poor chickens are eating warm oatmeal this morning because this mama bird feels bad they have to stay outside in this cold weather.
What’s the weather like this morning in YOUR neck of the woods? Snow? Rain? Sun?

Everyone in my area is just getting over nasty colds. It was a doozy- really knocked my kiddos on their butts. Hope you feel better soon!
Right now we’ve got a wind chill of -3 degrees, but it’s supposed to ‘warm up’ and be 35 degrees on Wednesday. I can’t wait until spring comes!
Random Person Named Melissa says
80 degrees with a really nice breeze *shifts guiltily* I had the window open while I was taking a nap.
Sophie says
It was about 8 degrees this morning! All the way up to 13 at the moment. Supposed to be in the 20’s for the next week. I am glad I get to stay indoors!
Leanna says
It’s too cold! Only getting to 37 today and tomorrow.
Penelope says
Yeah, we’re single digits this morning with no plans to get above freezing. We are sick, and got a foot of snow dumped on us this week, so at least the old dirty snow is covered with a thick layer of pretty white snow. At least I like the snow. Made a ‘half pipe’ sledding run by shoveling a little more snow into the tramp hole yesterday. Kids loved it.

I am in North East Ohio.. Generally this time of year has us knee deep in snow and in the single digits.. Today the sky is grey but the temp is 66 RIGHT NOW.. my kids are out in play clothing and light jackets…We have managed to be healthy.. all fall and winter break… I predict that when the cold SNAPS back in in a day or two.. they will all be dying… sinus infections here we come….
Erika says
Not too bad here in southern AZ. We did finally get enough of a frost to kill my invulnerable, still-producing Roma tomato plant. Below freezing at night, mid-40s during the day, but windy. Kids are still playing outside regularly, but coming in cold. They took turns being sick the whole winter break and now I’m finally getting over my turn. Those are my favorite tissues, too! Been through about two boxes this week (just me).
Lisa says
It’s 11am and 27 degrees. If it’s going to be this cold, I’d like some snow please!
Margery says
We are enjoying a very nice day of 52 about 30 degrees warmer then normal, the cold will return soon. But we used today to clean up the front yard a bit, and hold a duck funeral since the snow has melted. Even opened the windows for a bit.
Connie says
Oh yes !!! Way too cold for the PNW. I’m south of you in Molalla, OR and this morning it’s 22 degrees again. Been 22 or 23 for 3-4 days now. I have to bring the hummingbird feeder in to thaw over the heat vent. We have new lambs and had to bring in a set of twins that are just too small to cope with this cold weather. We didn’t fix up a warm-up pen this year in the barn so gotta keep em warm somehow. Soon as weather warms a bit we’ll go down and convert one of the horse stalls into a nice warm bungalow for the babies. It’s just too cold to stay outside for long right now. Stay warm everyone !!!! It can’t last for much longer, can it?
Sarah says
It is a warm 5 degrees today in Idaho. The highs for the week are around 18 degrees. Brrrr! It isn’t windy today so compared to the -5 degrees with the windchill factor yesterday it is actually really warm 😉
Bridget says
76 and sunny here in NC!
Jen says
18 degrees in southern Wisconsin. Which is actually pretty warm for this time of year…
Heather T. says
it was 14 here in Baraboo WI

84 degrees with slight breeze to cool off with. Spoke with the husband (who is still in Belgium) and it’s even with what you are having in Washington. Hate not having a garden but loving the year-round weather here in Key Largo, FL.

We have just come out of a heat wave with one day 113 degrees! It rained yesterday for the first time in just over three weeks, which was such a relief. So from a very sunny Australia stay warm! 🙂

I am in the NE and this wkend has been unusually warm-50 degrees! Back to reality this coming week though. Wish all that are feeling under the weather a quick recovery!

Cold here as well, got up to ice this morning. Well actually it was hail. We had a hail rain for a lack of a better way to describe it last night, middle of the night. We get up this morning with it below freezing all that hail had just piled up on the ground and was still there.
I have cooked lentils many times for the girls but not oatmeal. You just cook the lentils in boiling water about 4-5 minutes .. then drain and let cool just a dab… they love them.
I read another blog that a gentelmen has, he cooks spaghetti for his girls. Says the extra carbs are good for them when its real cold. I have not tried this yet.

We just enjoyed our annual January thaw in NE Ohio, yesterday it hit 61 in Cleveland area. Today, dreary and in the 50’s, tomorrow winter returns. I love NE Ohio weather. (insert sarcastic sneer here)

Oh, man. Same goes for me here. It is chiiiiilly in Seattle. I’ve also got “the crud” as we like to call it. Hot tea and seed catalogs. That’s the name of the game these days.
Mavis says
Yep. 🙂
Katherine says
I’m a bit shamed to tell you this, but we nearly hit 80 today. Warm and sunny.
Mavis says
You stinker!

Yesterday it was in the 40’s and today it’s in the teens! Baby’s is really cold outside. I’m dreaming of spring temp’s and getting the garden ready. Found a cool website that helps with laying out and planning my garden. I can’t wait to play with it 🙂

I live near Twin Falls Idaho and it’s cold cold cold! The thermometer said -0 this morning. The other day it was blowing so hard I had to put my winter coat, gloves and scarf on just to open the back door to let the dog out! It sure is pretty though.
Susan says
Temperature was about -10 degrees with wind chill colder than that along with ice and snow. It hasn’t been a fun weekend!! In fact it’s 7 degree here right now that has been about the high for today. I will take your temperatures any day.. The good news is it’s suppose to be in the 20s this week so we will be getting a break from the cold.
Krystal says
It is beyond cold in Spokane at a whopping 17°….supposed to drop even more tonight! You guys got it good on the west side 🙂 I adore your blog Mavis! Thank you!

Sunny and warm in Virginia beach. I have an iris about to bloom…….in january….go figure

The month so far has been quite mild for us here in this part of northern Minnesota as far as temps…
It’s 3 degrees out and has been snowing for the last two days. The ground has been frozen since before Thanksgiving. All of the lakes are completely ice covered.
Gardening outdoors doesn’t start here until April or May (May being closer to normal) (in the coldest winters the ground is frozen nearly 3 feet down). The growing season usually ends early September with our first killing frost.

We live in Portland, but on a 2 week road trip. Hollywood Ca last week, 65. San diego 2 days later, 60, Phoenix 2 days later, 32. Vegas 1 day later, 29. 4 days later (today) Lake Tahoe, 9 degrees… Now THAT’s cold!!
LaToya says
It was 3 degrees when we left to coupon yesterday before 6am. When we were done, it was 2. And then I hear that wind chill blah blah made it negative something. Whatever. It’s just straight cold. Funny how we’re partial to our tissues in the winter – I only the Kleenex Cool Touch ones. They are thicker and feel good on contact. Got a bunch of them free at Wags last year. Will be sad when I run out. I make the husband and kids use all the cheapo Scotties and whatever else is in the stockpile, but hands off my Kleenex Cool Touches!
Angie Smith says
Here in Utah, it was 2 degrees at 7 a.m. – not sure what it is now, but the forecasted highs are 0 to teens for the next several days, at least. It seems like there has been a lot more sickness than usual this year, and I guarantee we’ve had more than our fair share of it.
Angie Smith says
At 9 a.m. it was NEGATIVE 2 degrees. I’m not checking any more. 😀
Mavis says
HA!
MaryW says
It was 5 degrees in Colorado Springs. Too frickin’ cold.
Mavis says
Seriously? I might have to get a new coat if I come to Colorado.

-18 this morning when I got up for work…. Gotta love Montana winters!
Kara Bryant says
-18 in Idaho this morning. Kids out of school. The car was still cold after a 10 min drive to work, the defrost wouldn’t even defrost the entire window!

We are freezing our behinds off here in Northern California. Too many days of freezing temps are really hurting my garden. 🙁
