Lately I’ve been doing “visual” to-do lists in addition to writing stuff down and I am loving it. I set everything out I need to take care of, and then pick away at my chores as the day progresses.
Yesterday: Return sweaters, schedule ebay listing, deposit check, plant lettuce seeds, bake butternut squash and dye wool. I had the sideboard cleared by about 4pm.
Speaking of sweaters…. Mrs. HB let me take home a few sweaters to try on {to go with the dress I wore last saturday}. I loved one of them so much that I asked her if she wanted to get rid of it.
She immediately offered to barter for the 2 giant pots I was going to get rid of at our next yard sale. Which if you ask me… was a pretty good deal. I got a sweater that I could use when I need to “dress up” and she now has two more pots to add to her collection. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather shop in my friends closets than have to go to a store and try something on.
If there was a snoopervising committee for dogs, Lucy would be their Queen.
She likes to stay on top of things. And usually is within 5 feet of me.
My new favorite salad dressing:
1/4 olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon jam
Put all the ingredients in a jar, shake it like a polaroid picture and pour desired amount over salad. Store extra dressing in the fridge. A big thank you to the person who recommended this to me. I have emptied 2 jars of jam so far this year using this recipe.
I miss the preppy look. I could wear this outfit 6 months out of the year with Dansko clogs and alternating Smartwool tights and be a very happy camper.
The daffodils, ours are in bloom. Are yours? It takes every ounce of willpower not to pick them all and bring them inside.
Have a great wednesday everyone,
~Mavis

I love seeing pictures of Lucy. Thank you for the salad dressing recipe. I will try that soon. In terms of daffodils? Mine are buried in about 18 inches of snow. Done for the year. They never got to bloom. I’m in Southern New England. It took my daughter about 45 minutes to dig out her car. The temperature has now risen to about 20. Wowee! I think winter and snow are fun until you have to deal with them on a regular basis, but that’s just me. I can’t wait for spring!

Daffodils? Mine were blooming, along with my crocus and hyacinth. Now they’re buried under 15″ of snow, so I guess I’ll see them next year. Are you sure you want to move to the east coast? 😉
Linda says
My daffodils are buried under 2 1/2 feet of snow this morning. Happy clean out day for those of us on the east coast.

Alright, alright, alright…thanks for the salad dressing recipe. I’ve been looking for a new one.
Yes the daffodils are blooming here in the suburbs of Portland. Spring is coming! I’ve had enough rain!

I make a salad dressing very similar (and I can’t remember if I posted it on here or not). I like using apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of dijon and a tablespoon of honey with the EVOO and jam. Raspberry is definitely my favorite. If I plan on making enough to last 2 weeks I throw it all in the blender and use a few frozen berries (about a 1/4 cup). Homemade dressings are so great. No added sugar (except what you put in the jam) and scary sounding words! You can easily leave out the honey but my husband is a beekeeper so I add it to everything.

what daffodils? We’ve got over 32 inches of snow and even before Stella, the ground was still frozen. No daffs up but had a short inch of tulips showing. Snow mound almost above the lilacs. Believe that will lose those flowers, as buds were swelling.

We have about an inch of snow on the ground in Western PA, thank goodness not as much as the Eastern part of the state. No flowers for awhile. Cheryl

No flowers here either in South Dakota, just snow. Waaaah! Come ON Spring! Thank you for the dressing recipe! Will try. I’ve always done mine with just sugar, no jam, so excited to try it this new way!

Doesn’t help use up your extra jam, but I love just mixing red wine vinegar with olive oil and putting that on my salad with some salt.
Earlene says
So, I’m guessing you could use any flavor jam??? No flowers up here in northern Wisconsin and no snow either. Yesterday we woke up to -6, but then it was 40 by the end of the day!

So far I’ve tried plum, strawberry and cherry. All winners!

Just dead- headed most of my daffodils yesterday, though some of the fancier types, like Salome, are still blooming. Here in the desert, they often bloom before New Year’s Day, but this year was cooler and the first ones flowered in late January. Daffodils are one of the only flowers not eaten by the desert cottontail rabbits, but I have success planting Gladiolus, which rabbits love to eat, behind a barrier of sweet alyssum, which they avoid. I enjoy your blog-one of the only ones I check daily. Thank you!

I’m back! Bet you didn’t even miss me. I made a comment a week or so ago and the email I got in response somehow de-subscribed me – it took me a few days to realize what was wrong, but I’m sure I misunderstood its intent. Anyhow, here in Midwestern Ohio we usually have a cold, snowy winter. THIS year we’ve had many, many warm days up to 74 with hardly any snow until the croci and daffodils got brave. My forsythia doesn’t look nearly as pretty in snow as it does when it is warm. Boo. Hiss.
It is hard to go from 74 to 17.

Well I’m glad your back. I am amazed I can even open email most days let alone write the blog. Ha!
