Mavis….why do you keep doing this to me? I’m try to be “good” and not eat so many sweets then you post these amazing brownies. Since I have no willpower I guess it’s going to be extra miles with the dogs now that the weather is getting nicer. ๐

This recipe looks like what in Indiana we call “Texas Sheetcake”. Very good. We usually put pecans on top. My kids gobble it down!

Funny! I actually seen this posted on facebook this weekend and thought to myself, I will have to try it!

ah yes, the famous Texas sheet cake – growing up my mom always made this but with this variation – right when you pull the cake out of the oven, you sprinkle mini marshmallows and chocolate chips over the top, stick back in the oven for one minute, then pull out and pour on the frosting. So good – for some reason in our family this special variation was always referred to as aunt vinnie’s chocolate cake – although I don’t have an aunt vinnie so never knew where that came from ๐

This has been one of my family’s favorites for years. Except we add cinnamon. Great addition! LOVE Texas Sheet Cake!

How much shortening does it call for? I’m guessing 1/2 cup?
Cant wait to try it!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. 1/2 cup. ๐
Julie says
May I ask what exactly is meant by shortening ?
Mavis Butterfield says
I used Crisco.

Thank you Mavis, I’ve done a quick comparison/google search for uk products, Flora white or Trex, just wanted to be sure I didn’t spoil the recipe.
