Okay ladies of Western Washington, if you like yarn and tea I have just the spot for you, Churchmouse Yarns and Teas on Bainbridge Island. Seriously, even if you don’t live here but have plans to make it up to the Northwest at some point, Churchmouse Yarns and Teas needs to be on your radar.
With the exception on Halcyon Yarn in Maine, this was pretty much the biggest quality yarn store I have ever stepped foot in. I loved the place, and I don’t even knit, but The Girl does and that’s why we popped in to check it out.
The layout and selection was outstanding. It seemed like every which way we turned there was a new display of skeins and patterns with full size finished pieces. They even had a kids section and it was packed full of crazy soft yarns and patterns.
I didn’t snap a picture, but right as you walk in there is a large farmhouse table and chairs off to the side where they hold classes and open knitting sessions. We were at the shop early on a Saturday morning and there were only 2 seats left, so I guess it’s a pretty popular spot to hang out.
And then there was the tea section complete with Emma Bridgewater tableware.
The side tables and bookcases were filled with gourmet teas, shortbread from Scotland, and my favorite India Tree sugar cubes.
The Girl and I spent a good 10 minutes giving the sample tea tins a good sniff.
She found a favorite… Harney and Sons Dragon Pearl Jasmine tea. And then she looked at the price {$28 for 4 ounces!} and put it back and found something more in her price range.
We didn’t end up buying any yarn that day, but we did go home with a tin of tea, some fancy peppermint hot chocolate and a packet of shortbread. It’s fun to splurge every once in a while, even if at the end of the day you know you’ll have nothing to show for it because you ate it all. 😉
Are you a connoisseur of quality yarns? Do you have a favorite shop? If so, we’d love to know.

Yessssss! What a wonderful combination. I don’t even dare step foot in there right now, I just got a $20,000 emergency plumbing bill and have to lock down to super-frugal for at least the next year. But I will remember this exists!!

No tea for you Vy! 😉 A $20,000 plumbing bill? That totally stinks. 🙁

No pun intended!

Oh yes, it does. Not literally though, thankfully, it’s clean water 😉
Thank you for all your frugal tips over the years! I do really well, but there’s always ways to do even better.

Those tins of teas look Awesome! OK! I’m a sucker for tins. LOL I’m in the process of getting rid of a lot of clutter. Rearranging, too.

I don’t knit or drink tea, and I still love to look around that store when we take the ferry over to Bainbridge.
