Quote of the Day “Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” ~ Brian Tracy
You know what? Today feels like a Monday and all I want to do is hop back in bed. 🙁 My computer has been misbehaving the past few weeks and wouldn’t you know, this morning the HH had to spend a good half hour getting it up and running for me. I know I should get a Mac, but I just don’t think I can/want to handle the learning curve.
Technology, it’s great, until it’s not.
Monday. Let’s do this!
♥ Mavis

I don’t know how I missed the cute pot-holders the first time around, but since I have a little time this morning, I’m checking out the tutorial and Zoe’s etsy shop.
Do you have a friend with a Mac? If Ms HB has one, see if she will bring it for another visit. I felt the same as you before moving to a Mac, but now I’m so glad I did.
You might check out the “New to Mac: Sierra Edition” video on YouTube. Actually I’ve been using a Mac for several years now, and I’m going to skim through it today as well!
Good luck!

My husband has one but it’s one of the smaller/lighter ones and maybe that’s part of the problem. I don’t like the feel of them plus I like to use a mouse. Can you use a mouse with a Mac?
Em says
You can use a mouse. It can be wired or wireless.
They changed the USB ports between the older and newer versions of the Mac. With the newer MacBook, you might need a different connector for your mouse, or you could use an adapter to allow the older USB connectors to plug into the newer USB port.
You’re probably familiar with the older USB connectors, which are about 5/8 of an inch wide. The newer USB ports (called “USB C”) are smaller. They allow faster communication, and they can also power and/or charge your computer, as well.
You just need to make sure you are aware that there are older and newer connectors for mice, and make sure you get one that has drivers for the OS X (Mac) operating system.
Sorry that I made it such a long answer.

Always gone with a Dell and they usually last us 10 years, by then they’re so slow we have to get something new. We use them for business.

I’ve worked on both PCs and Macs, and I choose Macs! Just bought a new one-holy cow, it was not inexpensive (my choice), but I keep computers for years, and buying a Mac is one of the reasons I can do that. They are a workhorse, reliable, and are not subject nearly as much to the crazy viruses that PCs are. Go to an Apple store, play with them, and ask a thousand questions. But then order it. That way, you’re getting a computer that no one else has ever laid hands on (a recommendation from my computer guy that I follow to this day).
Carrie Council says
So sorry you are having computer issues. I use a Mac at home and a Dell at work. I have to do more troubleshooting at work and I use the Mac mostly for internet perusing, email and streaming Netflix, etc. I do know Macs are less likely to get viruses. If I am using a computer for any length of time I also prefer a mouse.
How is your dehumidifier working out? I need one desperately and I am so overwhelmed by the options and every one has a mix of good and bad reviews. My basement is so humid and starting to get musty from Florence’s rain. uggh!
Does yours have a pump option? I was thinking of getting one with a pump and it can either go out the basement window, into the washing machine or into the sump pump drain.
Just wanted to know your thoughts and review of the one your purchased. Thanks!
Gigi says
We have one with a pump and it is the best. You don’t have to worry about uneven floors making it to the drain. We always purchase the warranty, because it never fails the dehumidifier will fail. We purchased ours from Menards, they will take back anything and the warranty is easy.
Mavis Butterfield says
Hi Carrie,
We bought 2 of these {9 gallon size} https://amzn.to/2xxUH1F
One for the basement and one for the living area and WOW, they perform well.
They are SUPER easy to use and I would not hesitate to buy them again. There is a spot for a hose outlet on the back of the machine but we just empty the container. When it was insanely humid this summer we would empty it about once a day. We are now emptying the one in the basement every 3 days or so.
They make a HUGE difference. No musty smell anymore.

Hi Mavis,
Reread the quote you posted today and buy yourself a Mac. No regrets!

I seriously only use my computer for email, the blog and Etsy. Nothing fancy whatsoever so I put the HH in charge of ordering me something. I told him I didn’t even want to know what it is until it arrives. Anyway…. He loves to research stuff but I’m hopeful he will order me a new one soon!
Vivian says
Mavis, what a coincidence! I was looking up potholders on Pinterest just last night and saw your potholder that I had pinned before, read your directions and planned to make some for Christmas….and then you put it on your blog today! Great minds, right!

My sister encouraged me for several years to get a Mac instead of the PC I had. I finally did and now will never go back. There is very little learning curve because the Mac is just so easy to use, right from the start. I just bought a new Mac desktop, 21.5 inch, at Best Buy for $1150, regularly $1300. My sister prefers the laptop but I like the larger monitor. I feel sure you won’t miss your old PC if you switch to a Mac.
