What DID you do with all those flamingos? Did they make the move?
Mavis Butterfield says
Mrs. HB inherited them. They are in her backyard. 🙂

That’s not a bad case of poison ivy!
Prednisone doesn’t affect me at all, but it makes my husband wake up early and chatty.. neither of which he normally is!

Dear Mavis
I love your blog and the photos of Lucy!
I a so sorry you got poison Ivy – as children in the sixties my brother and I had it severely in Connecticut – I got it so bad my eyes were swollen shut – Back then the neighborhood mothers started all of the children on drops in our morning juice about March – – by playing out time we were tolerant to poison oak and Ivy – – and had mild cases at worst that we treated with wet, course or sea salt – – placed in a dish with a bit of water to make a scrub – it both helped itch the sites and dried them out faster I looked for the drops for you – and could not find them – they may not be available anymore as they were made with the oil of the poison oak and Ivy – – but a search on Amazon brought up many homeopathic products for after contracting a case – – and Jewel weed soap which I know helps – –

You might ask your pharmacist about the pre season drops to see if they still exist – – I hope you feel better soon – And thank you for your wonderful attitude, fun and good information in your blog!

Poison Ivy is the WORST! My brother was highly allergic but figured out that if he covered up -wore long sleeves and long pants, socks, gloves, etc he could avoid most of it. The REAL key – as soon as he was done working outside it was into the shower with an intense cleansing soap. Kind of Doctor quality. Scrub down completely cause that ivy gets everywhere. Only time he had a problem after doing that for years was when he forgot to take of his watch and got it under the watch band. Good luck. And welcome to the world of Poison Ivy.

Mavis, the pre season drop my mother used was called Oral Ivy, and you it IS still available. Here in Cincinnati I have found it at a Health Food shop, not a Rx. Mom put a few drops in our OJ every morning , year round. The ivy’s oil in the yard lasts and lasts, even over winter, on wood, tool handles, etc. so Mom just played it safe.
I’ve added you to my prayer list for a quick recovery AND relief from the itch as well as the side effects of the meds.

Mavis, I think you had really high expectations for this new house. You have been stressed out about getting so many projects done. This might be the time to stop (yes- stop) and smell the roses or lilies. Stress makes you more susceptible to illnesses. So just lower your expectations a bit and enjoy living among the wild life !
When I took prednisone a few years ago- they promised me extra energy –NEVER happened !!
