Quote of the Day “I love my grey hair and wrinkles. I love the fact that my face has more of an edge and more character than it did when I was in my twenties and thirties. No Botox for me.” ~ George Clooney
Hello Tuesday! Yesterday we harvested our first zucchini. Yee-Haw! Why is it that the first zucchini is so exciting but by the time zucchini #52 rolls around we are feeding them to the chickens? 😉 Ahhh summer. I love your bounty.
Have a great day today, enjoy the sun!

Funny about the zucchini. My daughter and I were talking about her (now former) plans to be a farmer when she grows up, but having a good backyard garden instead 🙂 I told her about my cousin who planted an 8×10 ft patch of corn ALL AT ONCE and ended up with 200+ ears of corn ALL AT ONCE. Then we talked about succession planting 😉 I’ve had no luck with zucchini in the past, but we do have 2 “mystery pumpkin” plants growing (seeds that I saved from either a jack-o-lantern or a sugar pie, I don’t remember!). It’s all a wonderful adventure 🙂

When you have had more zucchini than you care to eat shred the rest and freeze it! I have a silicone large muffin tray that I put extras in and freeze it. Pop the frozen muffins of zucchini into freezer bags and when you need to make a zucchini loaf you just take one puck out for every cup you need (each of the muffin cups hold one full 8 oz dry measure of zucchini) and defrost it. You can also use the frozen shredded zucchini for making relish in the dead of winter when you want to add some humidity to the house!

Sadly, my gray hair and wrinkles don’t look as good as George Clooney’s.

Thank you. I missed it.

My zucchini plants abruptly died a couple weeks ago. I only got two zucchinis out of them. It looked like they rotted from the bottom, I have no idea

Tip about another Northeast tradition: In the next few weeks, whenever you travel around local, make sure your car doors and windows are closed and locked. We don’t lock doors in our little village, so we’re apt to find an armful of zucchini on the passenger seat when we return to our car. Everybody wants to get rid of it by the end of August. 🙂

Sooooo I bought a used kindle. The cheapest one could find. My plan is to trade it in and get a new one with the 25% discount. (Thanks for the heads up). Well, the previous one had 1000+ books and didn’t log out of the kindle. Looks like I have a free library for a while.
