Quote of the Day “As time goes by, you seem to weed out the things that were making your life hard.” ~Tom Petty
Hello Tuesday! Last night before Lucy and I locked up the chickens for the night, we sat on the bench and watched as the ladies weeded the flower garden. In just a mere 24 hours they were able to clear a nice 4′ x 6′ patch. Hot diggety! I think we’re on to something here folks. I moved their coop halfway over the brick patch this morning and we’re excited to watch the magic unfold.
In other news, the HH had his second skin cancer removal procedure yesterday. 2 summers ago a surgeon nipped part of his right ear off. This time they snipped away part of his right cheek. That poor guy. I told him not to worry about it because really, what can you do? Scars are kind of cool anyway and we’re in this together, so really who cares if he’s missing a few inches of skin, right?
PSA for the day: WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN!
Keep on Truckin’ …and stay positive. 🙂
♥ Mavis

Lucy has the sweetest little grey cheeks! Good thoughts for the HH. And 3 cheers for the weeding ladies.
Kathie S. says
Best of luck to the HH today.
Peggy says
Wishing the HH well, and thank you for the sunscreen reminder, I often forget.
Rita says
Best wishes to your HH. And a happy father’s day to him on Sunday!
Debra Beeuwsaert says
Prayers for the HH to have no serious scars from the removal.
Susie says
When I was 16, I had serious spinal surgery (a fusion) which left a long scar down the middle of my lower back and another scar over the back of my hip bone (where they got the bone graft). My joke to my friends when we would go to the beach and they might mention something was always “Well, there goes my modeling career!” Which of course I never had in the first place. It put things in perspective in the whole scheme of things.
Em says
Great perspective.

My mom had shin cancer on her leg and my dad on his bald spot. Wear hats people!
Cecile H says
Sorry to hear about HH Skin Cancer removal. My Dad had a nickle size portion removed off the shell of his ear a few years ago. We suggested that the doctor insert a spacer disc like the young people are wearing these days so he could be the coolest Great Grandpa on the block…everyone found this amusing except for my Dad! lol The ended up removing the majority of the ear a few years later so he was a tad lopsided a baby size ear on one side and his rather large to begin with ear on the other. Dad having worked as a Cemetery Custodian for years was always in the sun on the lawn tractor with his ball cap on…but his ears rarely got covered, lesson learned!
UpstateNYer says
PSA: It is not only about the sunscreen application and wearing protective gear like hats. Have your skin check annually by your Dr. AND a Dermatologist. Skin cancer is avoidable. And many people will die within 6 months if left unchecked. I know this from personal experience when my friends husband died in his early 40’s after only 4 years into their marriage. Visits can save your life!
UpstateNYer says
That is a wonderful way to get that weeding done, Mavis ! Smart thinking.
Linda says
My hubby has had to have Mohs surgery done on his ears several times and removal once on his hand and once on his face due to squamous cell skin cancer. He kind of pooh-poohed the hat idea after the first ear surgery, but he wears his hat religiously now.
You’ve got a great attitude. You are absolutely right about scars!
Vicki in Birmingham says
I am not the biggest fan of most sunscreen products for a variety of reasons. Some contain ingredients worse for you than the sun! Maybe your husband should consider wearing a hat. And sunglasses! You can get melanoma in your eyes you know. Not to mention that the sunglasses help to prevent macular degeneration and cataracts.
Diana says
There’s no such thing as too many reminders about sun protection and checking skin, if you ask me. I hope all went well for the HH yesterday.
HollyG says
My HH is in the ‘bad ass’ scar from cancer club too. He had removal from his back a few years back and went through removal, followed by bi-annual skin / lung screenings for several years. He has now graduated to only seeing the dermatologist once a year – no more oncologist! We were truly blessed as I hope your HH is as well.
