I bought these Lego molds last year on Amazon. Honestly, I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to use them. I knew I would use them, because let’s face it, they are awesome. Then it occurred to me to turn them into crayons and use them as gifts. I think giving a couple of the Lego guys along with a color book would be a great homemade gift for kids to give to their friends. What kid {or grown adult…not naming names: me} wouldn’t love to color with one of these guys?
To make them, you’ll need:
- Lego figurine mold
- Old crayons
- Baking sheet covered in foil
Directions:
Start by removing the paper from the crayons. This is kind of tedious, and you’ll end up with crayon tipped fingernails. Using a sharp knife and a cutting board, chop the crayons up into small bits {about a centimeter long}. Now, fill the molds with the chopped crayons. You can make a mold using only complimentary colors or you can just cram in any color you grab. It’s really up to you. The crayons won’t lay flush with the mold, they’ll kind of mound over the top, but that’s cool, because they will melt down.
Place the mold on a baking sheet {make sure it is covered in foil, in case you have any spillover} and pop it in the oven at 200 degrees. Check on the molds after 10 minutes or so to see if you need to add more crayon bits {they melt down at drastically different rates}. Continue checking the molds every 5 minutes until the crayons are completely melted. The whole process will take somewhere between 10 to 15 minutes.
Let the crayons cool COMPLETELY in the molds. Seriously, walk away, if you try to pop them out too soon, you’ll have a waxy mess. When they are completely cool, pop them out of the molds and you have instant gifting awesomeness.
Don’t they make you want to break out a coloring book?!

If you freeze the crayons, the wrappers will come off very easily. They might even slide off whole!
