I went out to water the garden this morning and noticed not one, but two giant zucchinis growing in the squash bed. Holy cannoli’s, when these things decided to take off it’s crazy.
And the tomatoes? We are officially in business! With a little luck we won’t have to buy any at the grocery store for quite a while. Homemade tomato sauce and salsa here I come!

I’ve got green beans coming out of my ears, I picked a grocery bag full yesterday, so dilly beans are on the list of things to can. I’m picking lots of cherry tomatoes and a few large ones and a decent amount of zucchini. I am growing a Large Barred Boar tomato for the first time this year and I picked the first one yesterday. Oh. My. Goodness. It is easily the most amazing tomato I have ever tasted and one of the prettiest! Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Canned Peas, green and wax beans last week. Squash are going crazy. Harvested Yukon and red russet potatoes. I got my first Brandywine tomato yesterday. Set it on the picnic table and Baby (The Border collie) snatched it while I wasn’t looking. Caught her just in time! Last night we made Chicken fajitas with Red Onion, Green peppers and yellow wax peppers out of the garden. I have romaine lettuce and Pak Choy coming out my ears. This year the cucumbers are doing great and the sweet corn is almost ready. The artichokes and rhubarb are thriving along with the carrots, beats, and turnips. The broccoli Cauliflower and Brussel sprouts have all been a failure this year. Going to try a fall crop.

I am growing the Crostata Romanesque zucchini this year and I’m so pleased with the results that it is going to be my
“Go To Zucchini” from now on. Still am getting quite a few strawberries and blueberries. I thought I had a mid season and a late season bearing plants, but my info must have been wrong as they ripened at the same time. Will have to add a couple of additional bushes this fall.
My potential garden fail this year may be my tomatoes. I’m afraid I may have over fertilized them when I put my
starts in. The plants are beautiful big and thick with leaves….with no a blossom to be found! Has anyone out there done
this in the past?
I was thinking of looking for a organic bloom food (high in potassium) and see if I can get things back on track.
Would love some advise, I’m totally bummed at potentially not getting any tomatoes this year (or a load of greenies
at the end of the season.

If your tomato plants are filled with beautiful lush leaves, you could try (one plant maybe) tricking it into producing fruit by trimming the leaves. The plant might then put energy into making fruit.

I am in KC, MO. This is the year of beans for me! Beans, beans, beans! Green, purple, yellow bush snap beans. Good thing we love them! I also have a few cucumbers, have harvested some cilantro, parsley and basil. My zucchini are doing horrible. Not one yet. I have four 8 x 4 raised beds which we put in last year. We put weed barrier plastic under the whole thing so the soil is only about 6 inches deep. I think this is why I am not getting any zucchini (or cabbage, kale, or broccoli for that matter). Do you think that could be my problem? I have butternut squash that seems to be doing fair, though. Anyone know how deep the soil should be for zucchini, cabbage and/or kale? Any advice would be welcome!

Up here in Canada I only have green tomatoes so far….but I’m getting a couple of zucchinis every day. The peas are just about done, the bush beans I planted too early in pots are producing (because I brought them in when frost hit in June). My pole beans are flowering. I’m picking onions to use fresh, but they’re not ready for drying yet. I’ve eaten some kohlrabi. My cucumbers got a late start so I don’t expect them for a while – if they even ripen before frost (I’m pretty sure the birds were nipping the base of the stem all June so I netted them on my 4th attempt).

Man I wish my harvests looked like that! My garden has been horribly infested by red spidermites and nothing seems to get rid of them, not even the very non-organic chemicals that i resorted to out of desperation ๐
