If you are hosting a holiday dinner this year, these wine cork reindeer make perfect place card holders or buffet table decor. They require all of about 1 minute each to put together, and you won’t feel bad if the gravy boat spills and ruins them. Minimal investment in both time and money–maximum effect for your holiday table.
As an added bonus, older kids can put these together while they watch a Christmas movie. Put them to work under the guise of holiday fun.
You’ll need:
- 2 wine corks {per reindeer}
- Twigs
- Gold or red topped push pin
- Small screw driver or needle nose pliers
- Glue
Directions:
Trim 4 pieces of twig to the exact same length to use for the legs. They should all be about 3″ long. Using the screw driver or pliers poke pilot holes into the cork, and then stick the twigs in to form the legs. Secure the twigs with glue, if necessary.
Set the cork down, so that the now body is resting on all four legs. Cut a 1″ piece of twig to use as the neck. Using the same technique, poke a pilot hole on the top side of one end of the cork body. Stick the twig into the hole and glue.
Now it’s time to make the head of the reindeer. Make a pilot hole toward the end of the other cork. Slide the cork down onto the neck twig and glue. Stick two small twigs into the top cork to create antlers. Glue them in. On the opposite end from the antlers, push the gold pin down into the cork at an angle {so that it doesn’t go all of the way through}. You may need to trim the pin if it is too long.
You can rest place cards in the antlers or place them sporadically around your holiday table.
