Man-oh-man, I hate it when I think I have all the ingredients to make a recipe, only to find out that something has gone bad. Did you know you can extend the life of cottage cheese, sour cream, and yogurt by storing it in the fridge lid side down?
It creates a vacuum that slows down the growth of bacteria. {As a side note I’ve always wondered how ‘sour’ cream can go sour anyway–one of life’s little mysteries.}
Have you ever heard of this? Do you do it?

I’ve always done this cuz that’s how my momma did it! I’ve had people ask me why but I didn’t know…

That’s funny because that is what I was going to say too. My mom does and so I do too. Now at least I know why. Thanks!

You can also extend the life of cottage cheese by adding a Tbsp of lemon juice. I do this and now love it that way that I add 1/4 c lemon juice to my bowl of cottage cheese…like a tart tart soup.

Foodssaver Wide Mouth (and Regular Mouth) Jar Sealers.
These are amazing! I place all my dairy (cheese, mayonaisse, sour cream, etc) in Ball Mason Jars and Seal. Keeps so much longer and all the glass jars looks so pretty in the fridge. =]
