Quote of the Day “We all have something within us that this world needs.”
Hello and happy Friday everyone. I called Watson’s Greenhouse yesterday and found out they have bare root fruit trees in stock! This means I’ll have to pop in and pick up the espalier tree that I was planning on adding to the garden this spring.
Will YOU be planting any fruit trees this year? If so, what kind?
Have a great weekend everyone,
♥ Mavis

Mavis, the fruit trees your buying, are they already espaliered, or do you have to prune and train them?
I’d love to add a couple here, but have been very intimidated by the process of espaliering them. Thanks for the info.
Mavis Butterfield says
They are espalier trees. This is the time of year to buy them {bareroot} the same trees will cost you $20 more this summer when they pot them up.
butterflyweed says
Hi Mavis, Since you are sacrificing and not buying anything this year, why you would buy a fruit tree when you are planning on moving soon-you will never see any fruit. Zero return on investment.
Mavis Butterfield says
The espalier trees were one of my 5 exceptions to my buy only essential items in 2016. You can read about them here: http://www.stage.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/my-12-new-goals-for-2016-week-1-of-52/
Even though this is not our forever house, I want to finish the garden area. I know it sounds weird but planting fruit trees for someone else to enjoy makes me happy. I may not be able to add $30 more to the asking price of my house, but I’ll still get to enjoy the way my garden looks while I’m here.
Margie says
Way to go Mavis. Ya know what they say; IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT!
Elizabeth Vega says
NINE kinds of trees! Three of them, a fig, a Texas Frost lemon tree, and a pink lemon tree, were purchased, and the others, two varieties of pear, a peach, a plum, a satsuma and a pomegranate, were collected at free tree giveaways operated by a local non-profit. So we’ve got a backyard orchard, now! Looking forward to a couple years hence, when they all start producing!
Mavis Butterfield says
Fig tree!!!!! Oh I would love to have one of those!
Vicki B. says
My four-year old grandson is desperate to have a fruit tree in our yard. He regularly saves seeds from the apples he eats so that I can plant them. I keep waiting to have a yard full of apple tree seedlings, but it just hasn’t happened yet. Buying an established tree just isn’t in my budget, so we’ll keep planting the seeds and crossing our fingers.
Mandy Daellenbach says
Actually Mavis you may get to add more than 30$ to your home price. 🙂 We recently moved from Southern California to Washington. We were able to sell our Ca house for a decent profit. Our 15+ fruit trees were actually mentioned in the appraisal! We had persimmons, cherries, tangerine, nectarine, plumcots, two 50+ year old white fig trees…. Too bad the new owners tore them all down and our 50 year old wisteria. 🙁
Jacki Sanders says
@Mandy Dallenbach—How in the world could anyone cut those trees down? Sure hated to read that. Good Luck in your new home in Washington. Jacki
