I have not had a chance to watch Finding Your Roots, but it looks like a show that would be right up my alley. Yes, I know the show has been suspended on PBS, but I’m adding it to my list for my next lazy, stay in bed all day sort of Saturday. It traces the ancestors of famous Americans–which kind of makes me wish I was famous so they would do this for me. Season one is free on Netflix, and season two is free with Amazon Prime.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it. Did you have a favorite episode?
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

Finding Your Roots is a really cool show, wish they’d bring it back. A more scientific version of Who Do You Think You Are and a more in depth version of Genealogy Road show, FYR focuses on the history and genetics of the guests genealogy. Enjoy!

I love genealogy! When I’m on a hot lead I become completely obsessed with it. My biggest accomplishment was tracing my mom’s line back to pre-1100s. A heroic knight. Crazy right?! I bet I’d love that movie too. I watched some of that other series that was on TLC. I believe it was called Who Do You Think You Are? Same premise with famous people. I’d get so jealous of the opportunities they had just cuz they’re famous. 😉

Thanks Mavis. Glad to know its on Netflix! I have enjoyed the few episodes I have caught on PBS. Everything we can do to make history real and tangible is valuable. I read the link about why the show is ‘suspended’. It is sad that this has happened. Seems like adults in touch with reality would know that all our family closets contain ‘skeletons’ and folks that haven’t begun to address such things would not sign on for a show like this. Human beings are capable of the worst and the best actions, depending on whether we live to glorify ourselves or our maker. And we all do both. Hope Mr. Affleck will come to terms with that and that the show doesn’t fold due to this incident.

Well it seems that ancestors with slaves are not the worst of his problems. What goes around comes around. I always loved Dr. Gates interviews with Oprah and other guests, including his own history. He said they found other interesting things about Ben Afleck’s family to fill that 20 mintue or whatever program.
