Tonight I am going to watch The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I have wanted to see it since it came out {in 2008, I am only a little late}, but never got around to it. It is about the son of a German soldier who befriends a little boy on the other side of the fence of a concentration camp. It is supposed to be excellent, though, with fair warning, it will probably be heart-wrenching.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

Heart-wrenching is a great word to describe this movie. But so worth seeing. Thanks for the reminder – I think I will put it on my list of ‘must see again’.

Yes, heart-wrenching. It makes you think, not just make you feel sad. My son will come WWII in history next Spring and I plan on having him watch it.

Very hard movie to watch….get some tissues. You should add Remembrance to your movie list. Another holocaust movie but not quite so sad.

Excellent film – so heartbreaking, but a must see. Perspective is such an interesting thing – if you haven’t seen LIfe is Beautiful you should watch it too. I plan on showing both to my classes.

When it first came out I heard how it ended and it made me cry so I couldn’t even bear to watch it. One of these days…

It is haunting. It stays with you for a very long time. NOT a fun, feel good movie at all. Tragic and gut wrenching!

I’ve read the book, but I’m going to have to put this on my list to watch.

Just about one of the saddest movies ever. I don’t think I’d make it thru a 2nd viewing.

Most of my boys watched this in school–needless to say I was shocked.

I watched this movie recently with my boys (12 and 14), and as one of them said, “I’m forever traumatized by that movie.” I had not heard anything about it and was totally unprepared for the ending. As someone else said, it is a haunting movie that won’t soon be forgotten in my mind. I don’t regret letting my boys watch it, but I regret that I wasn’t able to prepare them for the ending. I’m curious to know what you thought of it, Mavis.

Heart-wrenching is too gentle a term…
It is few and far between where a movie makes my insides feel as heavy as they did after this movie. I greatly appreciate how subtle images and not seeing the whole picture of what is happening, (eg. the smoke rising in the distance and the flippant comment by the soldier), can cause a stronger reaction than in-your-face visuals.
A remarkable, powerful, well-told story, but not certain I would watch again.
