I’m a big Michael Keaton fan so I was already excited when I saw a new movie of his: The Founder. Plus, I had heard the story of how McDonald’s came to be and I’ve always been a little intrigued by it. I watched this and loved it, so I’m making the HH sit down and watch it with me. It’s so well done and so well acted, and the story of how Ray Kroc basically stole McDonald’s from right under Mac and Dick McDonald’s nose is infuriating and fascinating. I’d highly recommend this if you’re looking for a good movie tonight. Currently on Netflix!
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it or if you liked it as much as I did if you’ve already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

You know I rented it because my mom as a school teacher had a student who’s Dad owned one of the original McDonalds in Chicago. It was interesting and amazing and frustrating and sad. But worth the time to watch it!

I just watched this as well. it made me SO MAD!! I already didn’t care for the company and now It really made me dislike them. I worked there as a teenager and in every single McDonald’s there is a plaque of “Ray Kroc – Founder.” GRRR.

I watched it last year and enjoyed learning about it. One thing I would like to say about it, is that his wife #2 has left so much money to Public TV that they can present all those great programs that we love. As far as using soft ice cream versus the McD boys hard ice cream, I think it wouldn’t have been fast food without soft serve.

She was actually wife #3. He also had a daughter who died of diabetes & he gave lots of money to diabetes research. I thought it was a very interesting movie, but left me wanting to know more about him.

Thanks for the reccommendation, Mavis. We watched it last evening and found it to be a great illustration of how a small, quality and ethical concept can be blown out to be what many businesses have become today. Interesting side note: as a very young and suddenly wealthy widow in 1971, I was presented with the opportunity to purchase a McDonald’s franchise for $25,000. I turned it down and have never regretted it.

Watched it and loved the movie. Michael Keaton put in a stellar performance. As far as Ray Kroc he was a thief desperate for some semblance of success so he stole the brother’s creation. Horrible. I refuse to go to McD’s for any reason except to use their restroom for free when traveling.

The restrooms are ALWAYS clean! I love stopping there on road trips because I have no desire to buy anything. I’ve been trying to get MRS. HB to go there instead of TJ MAXX but she won’t listen.
