Gardening can wreck your hands. All that dirt and hoeing and shoveling and tilling can really do a number to what once was clean, soft hands. I’ve found the perfect little solution: Lavender hand scrub.
This stuff not only revitalizes your hands, but it smells amazing, too! It’s also awesome to bottle up and give as gifts {place in a cute jar, tie a ribbon on it and you have an easy present for your favorite gardener!}. Not a gardner? No problem. I use this scrub in the winter when they weather ruins my hands and they become a dry, chapped mess. It helps fluff that old, yucky skin off and leaved my hands feeling amazing.
Ingredients
1 cup coarse sugar
1 tablespoon sea salt
1/2 cup coconut oil, melted {here’s the kind I love!}
5 drops essential oil {optional}
1/4 cup lavender buds
Directions
In a small bowl, stir all ingredients together until well combined. Place the scrub into a jar or air tight container and store in a cool, dry place until ready to use.
To use, scoop out about a tablespoon of the mixture into your hands and scrub over dirty hands. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. Then go on your merry way with the cleanest, softest hands around!

Hi Mavis! I’m thinking of making this hand scrub as gifts but have a question. Where would I find the type of sugar that the recipe calls for? I thought maybe it was raw sugar but it looks too white. A source would be helpful as well. Thanks!

I buy India Tree coarse sugar. Amazon or Williams-Sonoma sometimes sells it.

Hi Mavis…. I’ve got the same question as Barb…. What kind of sugar is “coarse” sugar? I’m hoping it’s not too expensive. Thanks!

Do you have a suggestion for a replacement for the coconut oil? This recipe sounds fabulous but we have an allergy. 🙁

Are the lavender buds fresh or dried?
Mavis Butterfield says
