Now that we have fallen back…. mornings seem clip along at a more respectable pace. Up by 5, blogging by 6, the sun filtering in the kitchen windows by 7, chickens fed, Lucy’s walk, and polishing off my third cup of tea by 8. And maybe, if I’m feeling up to the challenge, dressed by 9.
The days are slow, calm, caring, and warm. The wood stove hums along in the background and something always seems to be simmering on the stove or baking in the oven.
Afternoons are spent hooking rugs, painting or just staring out the window at the beauty of it all. I am a lucky girl, and I know it. Leaving everything behind {the job, the stress, the noise, the feeling of being boxed in} and moving across the country was a gamble. And I think it’s paid off.

Your home is beautiful, I’m so happy you and your husband have found such joy and contentment in the simple things in life. I wish to have the same when I’m older and my littles are grown.

Your home is so beautiful! Definitely worth the wait and struggles in suburbia! You are such an inspiration Mavis. Thank you!
I like my home close to town and in a historic neighborhood but in 8 years it will paid off and I will begin saving for my dream home in the NC mountains that I will retire to. I have dreamed about it for years and once I made it a goal and set objectives for it, my dream has become obtainable. Thanks to your tip about paying extra principle on your mortgage I will have my home paid in 11 years instead of 30, possibly sooner!

Seeing your dream home become a reality, and watching you truly enjoy it, is an inspiration. Really. I’m in my twenties living in a townhouse with a husband, a dog, and 2 toddlers (with another on the way!) One day we want land, to build a house, and I may try my hand at growing some vegetables. I’ve really loved following your blog!

What a fabulous, warm, cozy, inspiring post! I love that quote at the end, it’s so true, isn’t it? I also took a big chance leaving NYC and moving up to the mountains and carving out a new life – that was 15 years ago now and I never looked back! And you know what? The beauty around me never, ever gets old!
