Remember when nuts were a guilty pleasure. Now, it seems like everywhere you turn, nuts are the new “heart-healthy” super food. Well, it turns out, after a several decade long study, they really are that awesome.
A study cited on treehugger followed 120,000 Dutch men and women since 1986, and found that those who ate a 10 grams of nuts {or peanuts} per day had decreased risk for death when compared to peeps who don’t eat nuts regularly.
Not only did the study show a lowered risk for heart disease, but it also appeared to lower the “mortality due to respiratory disease, neurodegenerative disease…diabetes…and cancer.” I don’t know about you, but that’s good enough for me…so bring on the “half a handful” of nuts each day.
