Lucy the puggle dog and I were outside working in the greenhouse yesterday and thought we would snap a few pictures for you. As you can see, Lucy is full of energy. She likes running in and out of the greenhouse like a crazy pup, hoping I’ll drop a tomato or two for her to eat.

The sugar snap peas and lettuce seeds I planted are really starting to take off. I used some empty tomato cages from the garden as make do as trellis. I think it will work out just fine once the pea tendrils take hold.
Lemon, our Meyer Lemon tree is doing great. I counted 8 big lemons forming and lot’s more new buds forming.
Hopefully these pretty lemon flowers will turn in to fruit.
We also have sweet cherry peppers growing as well. Β Since I planted both red and yellow pepper seeds, I’m not sure which color they will be yet. {I’m hoping for red though}.
TheΒ Sweet Italian Marconi Golden Peppers are looking pretty good too.
But my favorite thing growing in the greenhouse this week is the Sun Gold Tomatoes. If you have never grown these, you are seriously missing out. Put them on your seed list for next year.

My favorite tomato, hands down, is Radiator Charlie’s Mortgage Lifter. They are pink, not red, and they are huge, and fleshy inside with not a lot of seeds. They are perfect for slicing on hamburgers or eating with a little salt and garlic pepper. I brushed them with oil and put the slices in the dehydrator and they made the yummiest sun dried tomatoes ever!!!!

I am SOOOO jealous of your greenhouse! It’s my dream one day to have an all-glass beauty like this. π Especially for growing tomatoes. This year I am growing some tomatoes in pots, like Early Girl (favorite), Beef Steak, an heirloom variety that I don’t remember the name and Yellow Pear (another favorite). I’m realizing that Beef Steak and an heirloom would have liked larger pots: they dry out too quickly. And couple days ago I had visitors in my backyard (AKA deer?) that decided to help themsleves to the tomatoes without even waiting for them to turn red or yellow… Oh, the heartbreak…

I am impressed with the size and ‘fleshiness’ of my Amish Paste tomatoes. I do lots of canning and always have a variety of paste tomatoes, but this year these are my favorite and I will definately plant them again.

I love the sungolds too. They rarely make it to the kitchen. How can you tell when green zebras are ripe? The color is changing but the fruit is still quite hard. This is my first year growing a green tom.

The green zebra tomato will turn a wee bit yellow. Then it’s time to pick. π

They will get stripes and start to soften. I had a neighbor that planted some a few years ago and forgot to mark which variety was which! It took a while before she figured out why those tomatoes weren’t “ripening” and by then they were overripe! Super tasty though π

My kids love sun sugar cherry tomatoes and my favorite is Japanese black trifele. I love the mahogany color and slightly smoky real tomato flavor. Mmmm!

My favorite cherry is Sun Gold.
It’s a tie between Ace and Yellow Brandywine for favorite tomato in general.
I have to spend the day canning the Aces.

Would you be able to suggest a site that can give me information on how to run a greenhouse effectively. I was just given one and I don’t know what to do. I think my MIL has a heater and fan in hers and I don’t. Do I need one? I am completely new so if anyone has suggestions I would appreciate it!

Oh hands down my favorite are the chocolate cherry tomatoes, my cousin gave me 3 plants last year, i saved the seeds and started 6 plants from seed this year and gave her 3 back, they produced again this year and I saved the seeds again for next year, they are perfect size (1.5″) and are very dark in color, semi sweet and absolutely very low in acidity. They are the perfect tomato IMHO, nect to Cherokee Purple.
