“Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.” ~Albert Einstein
Leave it to Einstein to say something so wise! He summed up why I love this holiday so much. I mean I love holidays for a lot of reasons. I love the food {LOVE the food!}, I love being surrounded by people I think are awesome and I love that, collectively as a country, holidays remind us to pause and honor the things that are important.
The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays for that very reason. While we should be grateful daily for the freedoms and opportunities living in this country provides, sometimes we get too busy enjoying those freedoms and opportunities to pause and reflect. Today is the perfect time to do just that.
America is awesome. I’m grateful for the individuals who have and continue to sacrifice so much to keep it that way. Let us all take a minute today, before we churn some delicious homemade ice cream, kick butt in a watermelon seed spitting contest and burn some hot dogs on the grill and reflect on what this holiday is really all about.
It is the very freedom we are celebrating that allows me to freely write on this blog and you the freedom to read it. Our independence really is pretty cool, don’t you think?
Now get out there and light up that night sky. Eat well, stay safe and don’t light yourself on fire.
Peace Out Girl Scouts,
~Mavis

Even though I have lived in American for 15 years, this year is my first 4th of July since I got my American citizenship in February. Exciting! ๐
