Darrrrling… if you ever find yourself in Vancouver, British Columbia you must make a point to stop off at the Neverland Tea Salon for a spot of tea. Or rather their high tea service. The Girl and I did just that last Saturday and were so impressed with not only the offerings but the service and fun atmosphere that Neverland Tea Salon has moved into first place out of all the tea places we’ve been to.
High tea service {and there are 3 to choose from: regular, vegetarian, and gluten/dairy free} run $35 CAD. Which is about $26 in USD and let me tell you… it’s worth every penny. Check out those scones!!! We had the choice of a savory or sweet scone and both were delicious.
I had the regular high tea service and The Girl tried the vegetarian version and both were fantastic.
Look at those finger sandwiches! Aren’t they adorable? A few weeks ago Mrs. HB and I were in Spokane and sat down to high tea service and there is just no comparison to Neverland Tea. None at all. {I’m still trying to decide if I should write about the bad food or not}.
One of my favorite features of the high tea was that you could try as many varieties of tea as you wanted to. We tried 6. Irish breakfast, Peach Oolong {it smelled and tasted like a 1970’s floral bathroom}, Lady Guava, Iron Goddess, Mumbai Chai {The Girls favorite} and Lavender Earl Grey {my favorite}.
The decor!!! Oh my it was lovely. And the cool part was… all the furniture was old.
With the exception of the couch, everything could have been bought at a local thrift shop and I LOVED THAT! There is a definite knack to finding and decorating with good, solid wood pieces, and the owners of the tea salon nailed it.
Note to shop owners: Paint your ceilings! People look at them. Nobody wants to see ugly duct work and it’s amazing what a gallon or two of paint can do. I really like how this one was painted grey and had several chandeliers and tea cups hanging from it.
Neverland Tea Salon in Vancouver, British Columbia. I just can’t say enough good things about it and I can’t wait to go back.

P.S. Have you ever enjoyed high tea service before? If so where? And would you recommend it to a friend? We’d LOVE to hear about other fantastic tea shops. 😉

How wonderful! And I don’t think that they should paint the ceiling; I think they should drape it in silk!

I’m putting this on the list, thank you!
Have you been to the Secret Garden in Sumner? If not I highly recommend it, their salads and scones are delightful! We had high tea at Christmas time there and it was a very special experience.

We’ll have to put this on our list of places to try! My mom and sister and I love doing afternoon tea at various places – we love The White Heather tea shop a little off the beaten path in Victoria BC, and we’ve enjoyed the goodies and high tea service at British Bites in puyallup – the British owner is fun to chat with 🙂
Point Ellis house makes for an interesting visit in Victoria – they serve their tea out on the manicured lawn and while it’s not the BEST offering of sandwiches and treats we’ve had, it’s alright and includes a guided audio tour of the historic mansion, which is cool and makes for a unique experience. Also been to a couple forgettable places in Victoria and one in Seattle that was good but maybe the most pricey we have tried, and my mom and sister loved the secret garden in sumner – their UNLIMITED scones with high tea are delicious and dangerous!
Thanks for this recommendation! This is why you need to write a little more about your Spokane experience so those of us who are local don’t repeat your mistake if we head over there! You don’t necessarily have to call the place out (but if you give enough clues to help us figure out which of the two places in Spokane that offer afternoon tea it was)

Teahaus in Ann Arbor, Mi has a lovely high tea. I take advantage of it every time I can.

I have not experienced high tea. Do you have to dress up for this? What makes it “fun”?

If you have a Ritz Carlton near you, try to see if they serve high tea. Ours at Lake Las Vegas was taken over by another hotelier and we miss it so.

The Ritz Carlton in Dana Point has an excellent one if you are ever in So Cal.

Mavis,
I live near Coeur d’Alene and frequent the Spokane area to shop at Trader Joe’s, etc. Would you mind telling us the name of the tea place in Spokane that you didn’t enjoy, so we don’t waste our money going there? Thank you!
Also, thank you for the heads up on that amazing thrift store in Spokane!

Teas’s Me in Hillsboro, Oregon. She sets the nicest table, priced reasonably and you will not come away hungry. She does many “themed” teas like graduation, Halloween and Christmas. Very nice place if you are down this way

I love Steeped in Comfort which is in Lakewood, Washington. Do call for reservations. It is small and wonderful. Such good food and the owner is just so sweet and kind. (And there is a quilting fabric store on the same storefront, I think it is 2 doors down. So the best of all worlds.)
And now I think I need to go there soon.

We’ve had high tea at Butchart Gardens in Victoria, Canada. Loved it.

I have never been for a high tea but it’s on my list of things to do one day.
If you ever go to Victoria, BC, you need to check out the Empress Hotel. I have heard many wonderful things about their tea.

Another great place is in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario. The Prince of Wales Hotel is amazing!

If you came to the Niagara Region, there’s lots of wonderful fruit farms to visit. My husband’s family runs a cucumber greenhouse. I could get a tour of it for you. It’s a pretty neat set up.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ve heard great things about tea at the Empress Hotel too. We will probably be in the Niagara region next summer so thanks for the offer. That would be so much fun.

Question: what is the purple-topped triangular thing?
Actually, I’m curious as to what all of the desserts and sandwiches were, but the purple one… I don’t think I’ve seen anything particularly similar before, so I’m quite curious!
Mavis Butterfield says
Blackcurrant cheesecake. It was out favorite one of the desserts too. 🙂 You can see the complete list of desserts here –> http://neverlandtea.com/pdf/neverland_high_tea_menu_2017-06.pdf

It’s called Afternoon Tea in the UK just in case you should be looking for it on holiday here, and I bought my parents vouchers for a couple of years as a Christmas present. (High Tea is hardly used here anymore and last time I had it, it turned out to be baked beans on toast!)
We live on the edge of the Cotswolds, so one of their vouchers was for a hotel in Bourton-on-the-Water http://www.dialhousehotel.com/afternoon-tea.html and the other was for this hotel http://www.bucklandmanor.co.uk/hotel/gallery which is in a beautiful setting. It was a great clutter-free gift; they really enjoyed it.

What is a savory scone?
Wendy says
I kind of think of them as biscuits, in a way, such as a chive and cheddar biscuit (scone), etc. Delish!
