There are about a million ways to spend your hard-earned money this holiday season. Some of them are super duper tempting, because they look so festive. They just put you in the holiday mood. For me, that is garland. Now, I could go to Home Depot and spend a boat load on re-usable or fresh garland, but I am not that kind of gal. Fresh cut garland is super easy to make and smells better anyway.
I’ve made these every year for as long as I can remember, but I thought I’d post another tutorial in case you missed the how-to.
You’ll need:
- Several small cedar branches {between 6″-12″ long}
- 22 gauge wire
- Wire cutter
Directions:
Start by sorting your garland into piles by length. This step is not mandatory, but it will feed your OCD, and honestly, make assembly the tiniest bit easier.
Grab two branches and stack them on top of each other so that they are staggered {we are creating a “line” of branches}. Tightly wrap the wire around them to secure. I like to go around 3-4 times, giving it a good tight twist each time. Cut the wire.
Repeat the process, layering the branches and wiring them together until you’ve hit the desired length.
I like to hang mine in the garage for a couple of days to ensure that they are completely dry before I go tossing up against my painted trim.
Now all you have to do is blanket your house in garland and bring on the Christmas cheer…or eggnog. Whichever.
