So what’s a frugal girl like Mavis gonna do about that?
She’s gonna barter with the neighbor folk… of course…
**********
Last night I loaded up a basket full of free goods I’ve picked up over the last week or so and headed down to the Hillbilly’s house…
Why the Hillbilly’s?
Because the Hillbilly’s shop at Costco… and buy produce in bulk…that’s why…
Yep… them Hillbilly’s sure do like their fruits & vegetables…
Sure Nuff…
It didn’t take Mrs. Hillbilly long to start picking thru the loot I’d brought over to trade…
I made sure to stuff lots of whole wheat pasta and hot sauce into the basket… and of course those were the first things she noticed… and soon her pile started to grow… on the kitchen counter.
My eyes started to light up when I saw her looking at the two varieties of tea I had brought over… Mrs. Hillbilly was like “I don’t know…. I’m not sure I want these…” I was quick to point at she didn’t have any Cinnamon Apple tea in her pantry… and… you know… maybe her guests would enjoy it… because well… “You know Mrs. Hillbilly … you do entertain quite often…” “That’s true”… and she put the tea on the counter… I was sooo stinkin excited… Why? Because every time I go over there she has all these weird (to me) teas… stuff like Chi Tea… and Peppermint… but now… now when I go over there I can drink my favorite… Apple Cinnamon Tea… Wow… am I smart or what?
Mr. Hillbilly got in on the action too…
He wanted the FREE Clorox Wipes I picked up at Target the other day for his “survival kit”…
After Mrs. Hillbilly made her selections…
It was my turn to go shopping…
Did I mention she shops at Costco?
Well lucky for her she has me to trade with…
I mean seriously… who’s gonna eat 6 heads of lettuce before they go bad?
Lookey here… laughing cow cheese…
I’m running kinda low on cheese…
(Well… except for the 32 bags of shredded cheddar in the freezer)
Mrs. Hillbilly tried to unload some Apple Cherry Butter spread…
I quickly noticed this was some sort of Christmas gift basket reject item…
I initially said no… but then changed my mind… thinking the apple butter would probably taste good on a slice of free Panera Bread.
In the end… I went home with a pretty good haul…
With all the fruits and vegetables I scored… we should be safe from contracting scurvy for yet another week…
One woman’s free food and toiletries…
Is another woman’s produce and cheese…
And that my friend…
Is How To Barter with the Neighbor Folk…

I’ll trade you some fresh garden onions, carrots, and zucchini for that dove deodorant. Love that stuff. <3 😉
