A few days ago I hosted the annual “committee” Christmas Party. I totally agree hosting parties can be a lot of work. However, I’m willing to take an hour out of my day to clean my bathrooms, my kitchen and put out coffee and tea just so I can have people over and eat food. Oh, and let’s not forget the “leftovers” everyone leaves behind. Ah haha! That is the real reason I have people over! Kinda sneaky eh? 😉
Everyone was asked to bring their favorite appetizer or dessert to share. This person obviously stopped by Costco on the way to the party to pick up a mini shrimp platter for $10.99.
Hmm, these cream puffs don’t look like they were made from scratch either.
But this dish was! One of the committee members is a potter. She makes amazing hand-made pistachio dishes in her kiln. One side is for nuts, the other is for shells. How cool is that? She gets and A+ for presentation and an A for bringing the nuts. Although she took the leftover nuts home with her so maybe I should really give her a B for not leaving them behind. Hmmm. I’ll have to think about that one.
Sliced apples and oranges. Interesting choice. Especially since there was no one in the room under 30 years of age. Clearly this was a case of HOLY CRAP… I have to go to a party in 10 MINUTES… What can I bring? Presentation… Not so much. BUT A+++ for leaving the extra apples and orange slices behind. The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird and Monkey Boy enjoyed the extra fruit in their lunches for several days.
Sliced Vegetables with yogurt & ginger dip.
Velveeta Cheese, Rotel and corn chips. Boy was the cheese dip good. I could feel my arteries clogging as I ate it. But it was worth it.
The best picture of the party was this one. The “leftovers.” I used the broccoli and carrots in a nice stir fry, The Girl ate the celery and tomatoes and Monkey Boy polished off the eight cookies left behind in less than 48 hours.
So there you have it. If you want free food… Invite people over.

Funny…we just hosted our annual holiday gathering last night and I am always amazed at who leaves food behind and who takes their food back home 🙂 Last year we had an “oh crap party in 10 mins” person who brought a half a bag of chips and a half of a tray of Fig Newtons! Seriously. Gotta love the holidays!

I have four packages of ham in the freezer that was leftover from a party we had last weekend…and it was a very good, VERY expensive spiral ham. Yahoo for my father-in-law! We too ate leftovers for several days. Just love party leftovers!
