Yesterday I made a trip to the feed store {again}. But this time I didn’t go to buy baby chicks. I heard through the grapevine a nice selection of spring vegetable starts had just arrived and I wanted to be the first one over there to take a look. Although I have been starting seeds {indoors and out} it has been a little slow going. Had I of know we were going to buy a greenhouse, I would have had it installed last December so I could get a jump start on veggie starts.
The radish seeds I planted about a month ago are really starting to look good.
The spinach is starting to sprout up like gangbusters as well.
But the Parisian Carrots and Shallots have yet to pop through the soil. If squint really hard I can see hairlike sprouts trying to emerge. So what’s a girl to do?
BUY VEGETABLE STARTS!
I started to second guess the idea of planting shallots in one of the gutters, and was having a difficult time staring at plain dirt every time I walked into the greenhouse. So I went ahead and planted 18 Romaine & Butter Crunch lettuce starts in shallot gutter. The shallot seeds are still in there, but at this rate, I think I’ll be harvest lettuce before the shallots even reach 1″ in height. At which point I will move the shallots to an outdoor location so they are not using up prime greenhouse real estate. Lesson learned.
So what seedlings are currently growing in my greenhouse? Round 2 of Walla Walla & Red Onions, Broccoli Rabb, Swiss Chard, Lettuce and 2 trays of Johnny Jump Ups {which are not jumping up yet by the way}.
In addition to buying lettuce starts, I also picked up 2 trays of Green Comet Broccoli.
2 trays of Broccoli Rabb.
Purple Sage
Now all I need to do is find a spot outside to plant them.
Peace out Girl Scouts… Have a great weekend!
