Yesterday I walked out to the greenhouse, and decided the time had come to harvest my first vegetable of the 2012 growing season. As you know my goal this summer is simple; to grow 2,000 lbs of fresh fruits and vegetables in my very own backyard. And I think I can do it. After all, we’ve all been taught from a very young age, “If you believe it, you can achieve it.”
Here we grow! Only 1,999 lbs and 14 ounces to go!

Looks amazing!! Just finished tilling in top soil and making rows, but it started snowing and raining…again! UGH! 2 more days of rain and then the garden will be ready! You’re a great inspiration!

Woohoo! Congratulations!
I finally officially gave up on my seeds and bought some starts at the nursery yesterday. Onions and broccoli and lettuce, oh my!

I’m all into gardening, but unfortunately space is an issue for us. We are in a condo, so anything that requires ground dirt is almost impossible. Do you have any tips on smaller gardens? We are all into saving and being thrifty. Typically plant herbs on our deck with a few flower pots. We are all sun in the summer! Some day we will have a larger place, but for how we will condo it!
Mavis says
Yes I do Amy. Check back tomorrow and I’ll show you a really cook container garden idea. 🙂

Everything looks AMAZING!! You’re a bit ahead of us- I can’t wait for big salads!!

I can’t believe how much the lettuce grew in just a couple of days. I think I might need to get started on the melons soon.

Beautiful! I chuckled a little at the countdown. Hopefully you won’t be going in 2oz incements all the way to 2000lbs :p
Mavis says
LOL let’s hope not.

LOL! Yay! Go you!! You’ve inspired me to keep track of how many pounds we grow this summer, too. Hubs and I just went and bought six tomato plants, four pepper plants and two zucchini plants as well as a few herbs. Can’t wait to get it IN the ground! But seeing as how it just got done hailing…hmmm…not so sure. :/

Wow. Just wow. Not only am I totally inspired by your productive, and LOVELY, garden, but I am so glad I followed CouponConnections link over here because there is the type of potato planter I kept trying to describe! Now I can show my partner that I am not a lunatic, we can do potatoes without rototilling more of the yard. Thank you. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be spending a lot more time perusing your pages.
Mavis says
Ha! You go girl! You tell that partner of yours all the cool people are growing their potatoes in towers now days. 😉

Love your garden and just found your site. What an inspiration! If you don’t mind sharing…Can you tell where you purchased your greenhouse! I love it and it seems to be the perfect size. Thanks!
Mavis says
I purchased my greenhouse from a local retailer. It is a Magnum series glass greenhouse, 10 ‘ by 14 feet and is sold in all of the major greenhouse catalogs and also online. You can google it for a retailer near you. 🙂

Thanks so much! How easy was it to assemble? I was able to find it online. So nice!
