Guess where I went this past weekend? THE FEED STORE {again}. I seriously need to stop going there. If 48 hours pass by and I haven’t been, I start to break out in hives. Seriously, what is my problem? Why can’t I stay away? They have Frizzle Chickens in BTW… they are so cute!
My need to do drive-bys might have something to do with the weather. It has been raining off and on for the last 10 days. I told myself I wasn’t going to do it, but I did. I ended up purchasing seed potatoes. I paid $3.99 for 4.4 lbs each of both of Russets & Reds and then stopped by Costco and picked up 5lbs of assorted French fingerlings for $6.99. Although the fingerlings were not “seed” potatoes I’m sure they will do just fine.
Plus, I found about 8lbs of Yukon Gold potatoes in the pantry. The Yukons were beginning to sprout, so I figured I might as well get ready to plant those too. If all goes well, I should get about 180- 200 lbs of potatoes {although I am hoping for more}. Hot diggety!
Now all I have to do is wait for it to stop raining {clear skies are in the forecast} and I’ll be ready to plant.
Will you be planting potatoes this year?
If so, what kind?

I feel like such a rebel using the Yukon Golds from my pantry. 🙂

I have a lovely accidental potato plant growing in my compost pile. I will wait a couple more months and dig them. We did plant potatoes in the garden a month ago. We used what was leftover from last year’s potato crop.

I’m thinking about planting the potatoes in two spots. One for an early spring harvest {new potatoes} and one for fall {giant crop}. I love that you have an accidental potato plant growing. 🙂
