When I came home from being on the east coast for 7 weeks I opened the fridge and was baffled at what I saw. An entire 5 pound bag of carrots was unopened. As were the clamshell of apples and 2 tubs of chicken tortilla soup I had bought for the boys before I left.
The frozen burritos, cans of chili, ridiculously large poppy seed muffins, croissants, Cup of Noodles, Haggen Daz bars and oranges were all gone. There are still a few frozen waffles and corn dogs hanging out in the freezer but for the most part, they stuffed their faces with their favorite preservatives to stay alive while I was eating salads and home baked bread from the farmers market.
When I got home my husband declared “I didn’t even have to use a pan for anything.”
I think he was proud of himself.

Yada yada yada. It’s good to be back. Real food, and homemade meals, they can’t be beat.
Fred Meyer $6.65
Do you eat garbanzo beans? Have you ever bought them in bulk? They cost about 75% less when you buy them in bulk and all you need to do is rehydrate them in a little water.
Fred Meyer $9.88
A couple of Fred Meyer friday freebies and other necessities.
Costco $15.97
I had wanted to shop for greens at the farmer’s market but since we got home on a Sunday and market day isn’t until wednesday Costco was the best option.
Spooner Farms $76.85
I was more than happy to hand over my money to the peeps at Spooner farms for 3 flats of local berries. You just can’t beat the taste.
Next on the “buy fruit in bulk list” are blueberries and peaches.
Albertsons $4.16
$0.79 for pasta and a cherry cola for a jello salad recipe.

I spend 400 a month for a family of 6. Four boys, dad and me. Although I until everything in my costs spent. Like household goods, diapers, beauty products, wine. I wonder what mine would be if you kept track of only food……Got me thinking.
Also my HH always complains that everything in our house requires cooking. Hehehe. I dont by much of anything pre-made. I even began making my butter, yogurt and cheeses. My sister owns a dairy so I can get the cream.

My hubby and son do the same thing! Now I just leave them one or two token healthy options knowing full well they will be in the same place I left them when I get home (unless they had to move them to get to the tater tots and hot wings!). Your meals looked yummy!
