Quote of the Day “Don’t watch the clock; Do what it does. Keep going.”
The HH and I are not big on giving gifts to each other, but this year, he gave me a bottle of milk for Valentine’s Day. Now, if you’ve read this blog for a while now you know he does all his “shopping” at the grocery store. It was a sweet gesture {and proof he still reads the blog}. But still, it makes me wonder… did your spouse gift you anything for Valentine’s Day? And if so, would you mind sharing what it was.
Anyone else get a bottle of milk? 😉
Have a great day everyone,
♥ Mavis

I think it’s awesome that he got you the milk with the plug of butter on top that you love so much!
I did not get a bottle of milk for Valentine’s Day but after so much decluttering that I’ve been doing, following your example, I thought about what I really, really wanted for Valentine’s Day so I could tell him when he asked. And that is exactly what I got. A beautiful bouquet of flowers (he chose roses and lilies, so lovely) and a love letter, which he also got perfectly right and which I will save to read over and over again. It was a wonderful day.
Mavis Butterfield says
Awww…. Love letters are the best.

My husband and I are quite practical, so we do not exchange gifts for Valentine’s Day, but we did have a “date night” which is a rare treat for us. I think it is so thoughtful of your husband to buy the milk, he saw how much you would like it in your post and he knows you and how practical you are. I think it is great!
Kirsten G. says
No Valentine’s Day presents here. My birthday is on the 17th so dh usually waits until then to get me something.
Joanna says
I made him linguini with shrimp and clam sauce, and not only did he clean up the dinner mess, he cleaned the rest of the kitchen! Like it’s *supposed* to be cleaned! <3
Laurie says
My husband bought a dozen chocolate covered strawberries that we had when the kids came over for dinner. No more cards or things! Don’t need stuff! With your suggestion, I read Bea Johnsons book..Zero Waste. It is kind of fun to see how much trash you don’t need to send to the landfill!
Ashley says
We usually don’t do gifts, but my husband was out and about so he stopped at the grocery store and bought me a 96 pack of kcups and a 6pk of beer. The coffee was a really good deal and the beer is made by guys on some show he watches. I like grocery store gifts 🙂
Mavis says
Ha! Awesome combination.

My valentine and I don’t really do anything for Valentine’s Day but I was at the Bulk Barn last weekend so I grabbed few heart shaped jube jubes for the kiddies and a small bag of chocolate hearts for the hubs.
Because I knew he was not expecting anything, I told him on Friday that I had gotten him and the kids a bit of candy. I confess I enjoyed the look of horrified panic on his face a little too much as he demanded, “Do you WANT me to get you something?”
I didn’t, so he got me nothing and he ended up having to trade our daughter his chocolate for her share of the jube jubes because she didn’t care for them.
So it was basically a fail all the way around! LOL
Lana says
A dozen roses here but I am really commenting to say that the cedar garden shed is screaming outhouse to me. 🙂
Leanna says
A new microwave (just because ours died and our boys cannot live without one).
Mavis says
The gift of independence for your kids is the best gift ever as a mom.
Lisa says
If your HH reads your blog, he knows what he’s getting for Christmas this year
My husband and I did not do gifts for Valentines Day. However, my two college-aged sons who both work at the same grocery store bought me a heart box of chocolates…it was so sweet! I’ve gotten bulk Bit-O-Honey from the oldest many times for my birthday…the perfect gift!!!
coleen says
I got a cute card, flowers, some of my favorite candy and seeds for the garden…..I gave him seeds for the garden, potting soil, pots and a card.
Heidi says
We stayed in a hotel for 2 days using my husbands hotel points. We stayed only 20 minutes away from our house as the kids had a long weekend. We had a blast and it felt like we were really on vacation. The kids swam the days away. It was fun, no other gifts were given. As my house is overflowing and needs to be decluttered.
Mandy Mascaro says
We decided initially not to get each other gifts this year. Our 10 year wedding anniversary is next month, so I told him that he could skip Valentine’s Day this year. I took my 9 year old daughter to get a stuffed animal and a little box of chocolates for herself as a valentine from Mommy and Daddy and while I was in the store I picked up a box of chocolates for the HH that my little girl gave to him from herself.
Mavis says
Happy 10 years!
Heather says
My hubster picked up a package of Lofthouse sugar cookies with the thick icing. He was at the grocery to pick up his chips (cause I don’t buy them unless they are on sale) and Diet Coke (blech). I bought him a card, he likes it. He has every card I have given him since we started dating (almost 30 years). My mom brought us sugar cookies, too. I buy my friends usable gifts; gift card for a coffee, homemade rose laundry detergent or pretty socks.
Julie in VA says
My husband took an ordinary “shopping list” note pad and wrote a love note on the bottom of each page. (after 38 years of marriage is there really 72 different things to say?) I cried, then I was shocked that he could even think up something like that to do. He threw in a dark chocolate bar and a sweet card, too. I think that was the best Valentine’s Day gift I’ve ever gotten from him. Sure made that boot dryer I got him look thoughtless.
Mavis says
Every once in awhile they throw you a curve ball, don’t they?
Nancy says
My husband and son had President’s Day off from work and school. For my Valentine’s Day present, they cleaned the whole house! Admittedly, everyone has a different definition of “clean”, but it was still one of the best gifts ever!
Helen in Meridian says
My dh gave us two 30 day survival food with extra protein and vegetables w sauce. He also bought a 30′ motor home, maybe for the zombie apocalypse. He got a new eye via cataract and new lens surgery and went from 20/400 to 20/25 within 24 hours. In 2 weeks his other eye will be fixed too. All he wanted from me is his valentine sugar cookies with extra extra cinnamon oil in the generous frosting, and for me to take down the christmas tree in the dining room.
Jill says
My husband literally gave me &*($” for valentines day. 2 yards of steer manure.
And yes, I was thrilled!
Lauren says
Yes! I got three loads of mulch for my birthday last year. It was the best 🙂
Lindsey says
Great husbands must think alike—mine got me manure, too! One of my best gifts ever.
Lauren says
My husband had 18 bottles of red wine delivered, it lasts a little longer than roses! 🙂
Lilypad says
After 22.5 years together, we don’t usually do anything big for Valentine’s Day but I do like chocolate—so this year, knowing that my husband would be on a work trip over the holiday weekend, I took him to See’s Chocolates the week before and my son and I picked out two pounds’ worth of chocolates, all the flavors we like the best. It was awesome. He wouldn’t even eat a single one, he said they were for us.
Veronica says
We realized at the end of January that we each had cards for our anniversary (in December), so we waited until Valentine’s Day to exchange them. He actually bought the card for our anniversary right after our 3 year old was born. So, we are working on a delayed gratification schedule. 🙂 But after 15 years (right about half of our lives) together, it’s okay with me.
Mandy Daellenbach says
Usually my hubby and I don’t do the whole gift thing. This year however, he floored me. We moved here in July from southern California. So now I can’t randomly throw seeds in the garden and have them sprout. Blugh. I’m slowly learning about what I can and cannot do here……slowly. Anyway, he got me a 6×8 greenhouse!!! He’s amazing! Now if only I can figure out what to do for the floor! 🙂
Cindy M. says
I made a grilled London Broil and lobster tails for my Hubbs & me and then from him I got a full body massage, some See’s Chocolate Covered Cherries (WHICH I LOVE!!!) and he got me a card that was completely fitting for when we started dating 40 years ago…I’d tell you what it said but then I’d probably have to kill you…
Cass says
I got 100 pounds of chicken food, a treat block and a box of chocolates. All of which says he pays close attention to the things that I value. The BEST part? He took the 100 pounds of chicken food down to the coop in the back of the truck, so I didn’t have to carry it!! WONDERFUL.
mandy says
I’ve always been single, so my son and I would go on Valentines dates when he was in grade and high school. It was always so much fun. Now he’s in college and married to his own valentine. We still get together though. He brought me boxes for my etsy shipping filled with 2 wooden hawaii glasses for cocktails, some blackberry brandy and a box of seed for flowers to attract hummingbirds.
I found them a pretty cut glass crystal bowl and filled it with potato salad and made a heart on the top with radishes. And I made a gluten free (his wife is gluten free) apple brandy cake for them. Along with broccoli and kale from my garden.
It was a fun afternoon.
Your milk was a great idea. I think I’m going to do that for them next. It actually came up in conversation as I’d been looking for some and so had they!
Dayna says
My hubs didn’t get a card last year until about 6:30pm Feb 14 and all the cards were on clearance so he picked up two. He didn’t lose it or forget about it so #win for him. Also a box of chocolates from Aldi. So not a bad year for him. When he does get me a card he writes the best things in them. Sigh.
Jen Maldonado says
My hubby and I don’t exchange gifts often, when we do it is a hand written card, not store bought. This year he brought home a dozen free roses for me he got free from out local Kroger a few days after Valentines day. I am not a fan of pricey cut flowers but I couldn’t complain about 12 free ones! He also got me an entire pallet of miracle grow potting soil and a pot belly pig for Christmas last year, a new tiller last year for my birthday and a kitchen aid mixer this year (because he wants me to make him food!) He is thrifty and knows I won’t like it unless it is cheap or I can play in the dirt with it!
