Yesterday was a good day. I woke up knowing I was going to eat the strawberry oatmeal out of my 30 day food supply box from Valley Food Storage and I just knew it was going to be delicious. And it was. It was so good in fact I found dreaming about strawberries and popped online to look our up our favorite local berry farm.
Which of course, led us on a morning road trip to Spooner Farms. I don’t know how I did it, but we bought 2 flats of juicy, freshly picked strawberries and I didn’t eat a single one.
We also made 22 jars of strawberry jam. 🙂
And I made my peeps strawberry shortcake for dinner. 🙂 🙂
Now that my friends is WILLPOWER.
We had a very mild winter here in Western Washington and much to my dismay… it is officially berry season. Oh well, I least we froze a bunch of berries so I’ll get to taste them in July.

Actually yesterday was pretty easy. I think my body is getting used to eating smaller portions. It’s more of a mind game at this point I think.

First off, there is no way on God’s green earth that I could have resisted licking some of that whipped cream. No.Way. So I’d like to give a standing round of applause to your will power.
Secondly, out of curiosity, does your pack have a recommended amount of water to store? I’m not talking drinking water, I’m just wondering how much water it takes to cook the 30 day supply.
Mavis Butterfield says
That is a great question. I’ll have to look!!!

What on earth is wrong with you lady? Strawberry season at Spooners is something I look forward to all year! Last weekend I got a flat and ate a quarter of it in one day. I was so engrossed in eating a pint in the car as soon as I picked it up that I ignored my husbands need for directions and got us lost not once, but twice. I would have caved big time if I was you.

I absolutely love black eyed peas and brown rice with no salt or any seasonings.
Even if you had to live off your stored food supply, don’t you think there might be some strawberries growing somewhere? You might have them in your garden or have to forage for them.
I love this project of yours.
Helen in Meridian says
Can you creep in early, like the hour you get up, and forage some strawberries from your former house?
Mavis Butterfield says
That would totally be cheating Helen! 🙂

I’m enjoying your 30 day journey. I applaud your will power. I look forward to the lessons you have to share about this month. I agree that it’s good to try out things, and find the kinks in the process. Not many people will do what you are doing. You go girl!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Gina!

Mavis, your will power is made of iron. I am so impressed.
Since you love challenges maybe this fall, after the kiddos leave for school, another interesting challenge would be for you and the HH to go for a month without food shopping at all. Just living off what you have stored away like a squirrel. The eatin’ would sure be more varied than what you are going through now.

What is the rest of the family eating? Are you meal planning for them as well? Are they complaining that they aren’t getting much variety with your Costco challenge? I have several complainers around here especially when I’m penny pinching. I imagine that your 30 day Emergency meal plan difficulties are only compounded by those not taking part in it who live with you. Keep up the good work!

My family is eating regular food. 🙂
