Oh Lucy. She really is the best digger on the planet. 10 times better than any shovel and she is so much fun to watch.
I love how she goes all out and isn’t afraid to stick her head down a hole and pull {paw?} up potatoes for me.
We had a blast yesterday in the garden searching for potatoes and clearing the space so we could get the small garden bed ready for growing garlic.
We have potatoes planted in four different locations and this was the first batch we dug up this year. I think salt potatoes are definitely on the menu this week.
Right after we finished digging up potatoes, Lucy was spotted a caterpillar crawling up the side of the house and couldn’t take her eyes off of it.
She sniffed, but didn’t want to touch {or eat!} her furry little friend.
I eventually set the caterpillar down to see what she would do and had a proud mama moment as I watched her escort her new friend down the patio.
Oh how I wish I knew what she was thinking.

I can’t believe that you not only allow but encourage Lucy to dig! You are one indulgent dog owner.

When I was younger, my mom and dad always had a garden. One year, mom decided to grow potatoes. Our dog loved raw potato, so much so, that when my mom peeled them, she would go to drop the peel and Baby would snatch it before it ever hit the floor. Harvest time for the potatoes came, and my mom went outside–the dog had ate every single one of our potatoes!

My old blind cattle dog also loves to dig. I recently had to dig the soil away from a fence so we could put new posts in.
I came back later to find that she’d refilled the holes. I think she was trying to be helpful.
