Yesterday I started to tackle my biggest garden project of the year, cleaning up last years pumpkin patch. It’s probably a little hard to tell from the photos, but this area is HUGE. So huge in fact that I’ve been putting this thing off for as long as possible.
Here’s what the area looked liked yesterday morning.
And here’s what it looked like by 4pm yesterday. Not to shabby for a girl and a shovel.
I pulled up all the mushy kale, hauled away the chicken wire, wheeled the dirt from the pumpkin patch over to the new and improved planting area in front of the chicken run and then raked up some bark along side the fresh dirt for a border. {I was thinking about adding a rock border, but then I realized I’d have to haul a bunch of rocks.} Ha!
So here it is, my weekend project. Rain or shine baby, I’m going to get it done before the Super Bowl starts on Sunday. Wish me luck.

What are you plans for the weekend? Want to come help me shovel dirt?

Mavis I love it! You’re a major inspiration to us fellow “dirt lovers”..
I love your ideas of recycling all the way down to moving dirt and rocks!!
Keep posting! And happy gardening!!!

Hey, I’m going to be moving dirt as well. My space isn’t near as big as yours, but at least I get to play in the dirt and that makes me happy!

I cannot wait to get outside. We have snow all over and more coming. Ugh. I’m over it. Looks great and if you are like me… You may be a little sore today. Ha. I’m usually in traction the first couple of days.

Is your yard as enormous as it looks? We have 4 acres but most of it is wooded. I love some of those big trees you have on and around your property. Is your washing machine very old? It looks fairly new/recent in the picture. I gather it can’t be repaired for a reasonable price? Don’t you hate that things don’t last as long as they used to?

I was going to ask the same thing. It looks huge. No wonder you have some many awesome projects going on:)

Ha! That’s because they are stretched out from not being washed for 3 days!!! Must get new washer soon.

As I look at your pumpkin patch I am so jealous. We have snow covering everything and will for a while. I can only dream and start my winter sowing in milk jugs.
