Being frugal doesn’t mean that you have to hole yourself up in a bunker somewhere and cut the outside world off, using only sticks and mud to meet your basic needs. It really is about getting your money to stretch as far as possible. I mean, when it really comes down to it, your money is a representation of your time–time you might have rather spent with your kids, or traveling, or {insert favorite past time here}, so just giving it away is like not respecting your own time.
Shopping smart is one way to get the almighty dollar to stretch far enough to help you live within your means…hopefully with a little extra jingle in your pocket. Timing your purchases around yearly sales is one of the ways I try to shop smart. Sometimes, that means going without until the price is the best, other times, it means stocking up early, so when I do need it, I paid a reasonable price. Either way, shelling out extra cash in an impulsive moment for something you can get at a fraction of the cost is just crazy talk.
Knowing what’s on sale, what’s in season, and what you should be able to find on clearance each month really helps you plan. How do you know? That’s why you have me…
Promotions and Holidays in March
March is Frozen Food Month. Why? Who knows. All that really matter is that there will be sales on frozen meals, frozen veggies, frozen desserts, frozen juice concentrates, etc. If you are a sports fan, March is a pretty big month for basketball. March Madness will kick off a month long line-up of college basketball games that means sales on snack food type items. If you are cheese wiz fan, you can stock up. St. Patrick’s Day also falls in March. You should be able to find sales on corned beef. Wait until after the holiday to stock up decor for next year, though.
Seasonal Fruit and Vegetable You Will Typically Find on Sale in March
In a lot of regions, March kicks off the cold weather growing season. You might see sales on asparagus, avocado, basil, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, kale, mangoes, oranges {this is kind of the last month for seasonal oranges}, papayas, pineapples, shallots, and turnips. If you live in an area that isn’t still covered in snow, you can likely get your greens in the ground this month and make your own sale.
Annual Sales and Deals You Can Expect in March
Stores typically run promotions on cleaning supplies in March. I think they are capitalizing on the wishful idea of spring cleaning. Look for more electronics sales to watch March Madness on too. If you want to treat yourself to a night off in the kitchen, March Madness usually provides ample opportunities to order pizza delivery at a fraction of the cost.
Clearance Items to Be On the Lookout For in March
While the selection might not be great, prices on winter apparel {coats, hats, gloves, etc.} will be at rock bottom prices this month. Winter seasonal items like cold/flu medications, humidifiers, etc. should start being clearance.
Now go forth and save.
