It’s a lovely day in the neighborhood. 🙂
In the garden boxes we have green beans, beets, carrots, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, potatoes and turnips growing. Not too shabby for mid October if you ask me.
And check out out!!! The HH built me a raspberry trellis behind the raised garden beds. Ain’t she pretty? I was thinking about moving our 9 blueberry plants right about where Lucy is walking but now I think I’ll just keep them in the front yard and grow something low growing like zucchini in front of the berry patch next summer.
The garlic I planted a month ago is coming up! Word on the street is we are going to have a mild winter {BOOOOOO!}. I do plan on covering this area with leaf little though to protect the garlic from frost.
I guess it’s time to pull up the potatoes from my secret potato patch.Â
Earlier this year we chopped down a hideous tree behind the lamppost and I haven’t been able to find a dogwood tree to plant in it’s place yet. Â I know the stores will be loaded with them in the spring so in the meantime I’m going to use the prime real estate in the front yard to grow lettuce cabbage and beets.Â
I honestly thought someone would have turned me in by now. Kinda disappointing don’t you think? 😉 Maybe the HOA likes it. Who knows.Â
If the weather holds out we might get a few round zucchini’s. {Fingers crossed}
The back patio is starting to look a little pitiful. The tomatoes and beans are on their last leg.
Last week I was still able to harvest a handful of beans though.
The petunias are making a comeback too!
And next year, we are going to have a bumper crop of strawberries I can just feel it.
Are your strawberries still setting flowers? I’m telling you, Tri-Star strawberries are the bomb diggety! I’ve been growing them in my gardens for over 15 years and they are such great producers.
What’s happening in your garden?

No one has turned you in probably because you only plant what you can manage. You keep it very neat and weeded and it looks very nice. You should be proud of yourself Mavis. Good job.
Mavis says
Thanks for the praise! And I hope you’re right.

Maybe neighbors think lettuce are a sort of flower.

Any chance I might be able to persuade you to post a how to for your raspberry trellis? This is on our wish list for when we buy a house (hopefully in the spring). Please and thank you.
Mavis says
I’ll put it on the list!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! I’ll work on a post.

First frost here in CT last night so if things weren’t covered our growing season could be over. Warmer weather this week, but with the sight of snow flurries yesterday it makes me very worried that our “worst” winter ever could come true. Keep your fingers crossed for us on the east coast.
Mavis says
Fingers crossed. No worst winter!!
Mavis Butterfield says
Beth. I LOVE snow. 😉 Good luck.

Your strawberries look very nice :). Mine are still flowering too, too bad there isn’t enough time to set fruit before the frost hits. What did you mulch them with, btw?
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t mulch my strawberries usually. The cedar trees are dropping leaves like crazy… so that is the orange you are seeing in the photo.

I had a straw bale garden and a small plot this year and they were both pretty well done. We’ve already had our first hard frost in Indiana. We tilled up the small plot garden and hubby is building me a greenhouse in that space. It is right beside the house so it will be easy to get to in the cold weather. I’m so excited about the greenhouse and trying to figure out what I can grow in it this fall and winter.
