Yesterday I stopped by to chat with my 85 year old neighbor lady and after a few minutes she said “I’ve been meaning to ask you about all those flamingos in your yard…” I started laughing and told her the whole story about the HOA. She giggled and then mentioned how lovely it would be to have a little pink in her yard. So I brought one over and planted it in her front garden bed.
She was tickled pink. 😉
Who knows… maybe we’ll start a trend here in Stepford.
Meanwhile in the vegetable patch, things are moving right along for this time of year. The cabbage plants are getting a little bigger each day and the radishes are in need of a good thinning.
Now that I’ve been approved for a fence and can have proper raised garden boxes again, I’ve decided to turn the side yard into a lettuce and cabbage patch and will be starting another batch of lettuce seedlings this week.
That will free up the containers I currently have my salad mixes growing in for tomatoes once the weather warms up a bit.
Do you have a Meyer lemon tree? How is it doing? I’m still waiting for mine to blossom.
The raspberry canes I planted earlier this spring are looking nice and green. I planted them towards the back of the property where they can grow wild and multiply in peace.
The fence guy came out yesterday and said the wait for a fence is about a 4 weeks. So I wrote down a boatload of {boring} projects I can work on in the garden while I wait. Once of them is to create a 2 foot flower bed in front of the arborvitae hedge. I’m not sure what type of flowers I’ll plant, but I know it will add some depth to the upper garden when it’s all done.
I’ve also been clearing some brush along the fence line. I’m sure someone will report me for that. 😉
Only 4 more weeks to go until I can have a proper {secret} vegetable garden. Wahooooo!
How is YOUR garden coming along?

Looking good, Mavis! If it would stop raining here east of Atlanta, GA, I could get out and do something. My list is now about 2 miles long.
What size pots do you use for your tomatoes? I’ve got 6 of 3 diff. varieties about ready to plant and I’m trying to figure out what size pots to use and if I can group 2-3 in a pot. They’re all heirloom and indeterminate, so I’m thinking I may have to use at least a 12″ pot and only put 1-2 in each pot.
You know, pink is the new black, lol…

I would say my pots are about 18″ wide and 2 feet tall. I plan on placing one tomato plant and maybe some herbs in each one.

I bought a cocktail tree with a lemon lime combo and it died when we had our one week cold spell here in Southwest Florida. I was so disappointed. lol……..it had buds too!!!
I think you should start a flamingo contest in your neighborhood. Or have a flocking party for a fundraiser for something community oriented. How could an HOA say no to that?? 😉 There a website called nextdoor that is for people in your neighborhood only. You might be able to meet more neighbors that way and do a flamingo type contest!!!

what will happen if you get the fence, get the garden going and they peep over and tell you to rip it all up? I think I would go ballistic. I just could not deal with an HOA ever! Good luck and I love that you shared the flamingo, lol. I hope there is a pink Flamingo revolution! LOL

It’s very neighborly of you to share! 🙂

My laurel hedge is blooming. I had no idea the flowers would be so pretty!

What a lovely gesture – popping a pink flamingo amongst your neighbor’s plants. I can’t believe anyone could have one bad thing to say about your yard. It is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. Those people need to get a grip and a real life!

I saw these shoes today and thought of you. You’re probably way too thrifty for their price but you would rock the flamingo shoes. http://www.bucketfeet.com/index.php/women/flamingos-women.html
