Holy canolies people, it has been a busy last few days around here. The weather has been BEAUTIFUL and I’m having a hard time doing anything else besides gardening.
Yesterday I worked on tidying up the pots on the back porch.
After weeding my shady vegetable plot, I transplanted the lettuce growing in pots alongside the back of the house into the long garden bed.
Currently we have strawberries, cabbage, lettuce and Swiss chard growing in the area.
I’ll add a row of onions and beets later this week once the Tagro I ordered is delivered and I’m able to bulk up the beds a bit more with some compost.
If you are in the Tacoma area, Tacoma Boys on 6th Ave has some gorgeous tomato plants on sale 3 for $10. I started my tomatoes from seed this year but when I was on the East coast for a week the boys forgot to water them and they all died. 🙁
The 1,000 vinca minor plants I ordered off eBay arrived and have all been planted. Hopefully in about 2 -3 years the entire are will be covered.
We planted the vinca in the center island as well as along the side yard that faces the street.
I talked to the fence guy and he thinks his crew will be here on the 18th to get started. In the mean time The Girl and I are working on moving the neighbors compost pile away from the fence line and into our garden.
Our dear, sweet, 85 year old neighbors offered to move their compost pile so it wouldn’t rest against the fence and cause it to rot but we said we’d take care of it for them. We offered to move it anywhere on their property for them but they said they didn’t really need it and asked us if we wanted it, so we said sure.
I think we’ll use most of it to grow potatoes and squash {and then share the homegrown goodness with them later this fall}.
I can’t wait to get these beauties planted!
I can’t tell you how happy I am to be outside gardening again.
Dirt is cool.

Wow… You’ve been busy! I’m beginning to feel quite inadequate. No, inspired. I need to get my winter vegies sorted and I’ve been busy with other stuff. Time to get on it!
Dirt *is* cool! But, I think we’re supposed to call it ‘soil’. 🙂

Yes, soil is cool.

I live in Portland and have been out in the sunny weather, too! Love it! So funny to see you plant Vinca when I’m busy tearing it out. We just moved into a new house. I love Vinca when it’s controlled, but it has taken over all of the flower beds.

Anyone who thinks vegetable gardens are an eyesore haven’t seen yours.
Absolutely beautiful, Mavis!

I spent the entirety of Mother’s Day in the garden. Planting, tucking in, putting up new fencing, weeding, putting up some wind block to help protect the plants from the winds coming up the valley from the bay. The entire family was right there with me and we had a lovely day, even though we saw a 3′ snake of some kind.
