The weather has been crazy good here up in the Pacific Northwest this summer and it’s hard to believe gardening season will be coming to a close pretty soon. Well, not technically coming to a close… we’ve still got plenty of things to grow around here in the winter months, but for things like fresh beans and tomatoes, we’ve only got about a month left to enjoy picking them fresh out of our gardens.
What will I do without fresh beans?
And zucchini? Well actually, to tell you the truth, my love for zucchini is pretty much seasonal thing. 😉
But heirloom tomatoes? Now that’s something I wish I could grow year round.
Check out the pumpkin patch? I counted 7 pumpkins growing on the vines. {Plus a few winter squash!}
I think cabbage is going to be on the menu this weekend. I just have to pick off a few slugs first. 🙂
And kale. If you can’t kill it, you might as well grow it, right?
Ahh summer. I’m going to miss you.
How is YOUR vegetable garden doing these days? Winding down? Just getting started?

Hey Mavis, long time reader, first time comment-er. Love how green your bean leaves are looking. Mine turn brown once the plant starts producing. Quick Q for you: Do you use any support system for your beans? I don’t see any in the pic.
Mavis Butterfield says
I use tepees for my pole beans and nothing at all for the bush beans. {Bush beans are what is pictured}.

Tried to post a comment and it said I already did.
SO let’s try again.
You haven’t posted about the chickens in a while – and I just realized it today when I was at the farm market and they have their chickens running around in a huge area. Have they flown the coop?
Love the Lucy pictures!! She is adorable and obviously the princess of the house!! Are you going to tell us more about your East Coast house??

I grew Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoes for the first time in my Wisconsin lakeshore garden. Just starting to ripen and enjoyed one today with some salt – nothing like the just-picked taste. Looking forward to reading about your new East Coast garden.

what is that super tall plant growing in the middle of the pumpkin patch?
Liliana says
It looks like sunflower.
