A HUGE thank you to Andie Scott who let me know today is National Zucchini Day!
Wahooooo! Thanks to Andie’s tip, I was able to unload about 30 pounds of zucchini to my unsuspecting neighbors this afternoon. You know what they say… Sharing is caring. Ha!
So what are you waiting for? If you have boatloads of zucchini and you don’t know what to do with it, put on a pair of sneakers and get out there and do some good old fashioned doorbell ditching!
Not brave enough to doorbell ditch? Well, I suppose you get do a little cooking instead. Chocolate and Zucchini: Daily Adventures in a Parisian Kitchen by Clotilde Dusoulier has excellent reviews and Amazon currently has it in stock for $12.63.

I am so disappointed that you did not barter them!! Lol!!

Zucchini season is about the only time we lock our cars at church around here – otherwise you can end up with an entire bag on your front seat!
Mavis says
Ha Ha Ha… I was surprised my neighbors took them… Well, the ones who had a choice that is. 😉
Tali says
Mavis, you are simply FANTASTIC!!!

wish I was your neighbor, I love zukes!

Nice gifts!! A vine borer got my zukes this year so I only got 3 paltry ones. I would love to have a neighbor that would drop off some fresh produce and I’d even barter with them. Unfortunately, none of the folks around here grow gardens.

LOL And I have a friend LOOKING for someone to give her zucchini! Nobody we know has any 🙁

SO funny!! This post made my day! Love the added touch of the ribbon!
Steph says
That is great – the note and ribbon make them so fancy! I brought a cooler of zucs, tomatoes and basil to a playdate yestreday and the moms couldn’t leave without taking some…I took the rest to boot camp that night to give to people I barely know…figured if anyone would eat the veggies it would be them! I am sure by tomorrow morning I will be inundated again! Did I read about “food pools” on your blog? Sounds like something I will have to look into next year – I am getting a rep as a produce “pusher” in the neighborhood 😉
Mavis says
I thought the ribbon added a nice touch 😉 Ha Ha Ha!

Oh Mavis…how I wish you were one of my neighbors! ;0)

I did not know there was a “zucchini day”. I wish i was one of your neighbors.

I am so happy I FINALLY am getting some zucchini! I think it took my lavender coming in to bloom to lure the bees to my garden – my zukes were all dropping off and dying before then. I’m not yet to the point of sharing or doorbell ditching!

You are the greatest, you never run out of epic ideas!
Rachel Kissner says
Try sauted Zucchini with with Onions and Garlic then sprinkled with grated Parmesan Cheese. It is one of my favorite sides, well most of the time I eat it as a main dish…lol..

Very imaginative. I found a recipe on a link for Zucchini Cherry muffins. They look good and are vegan, which my daughter is. BUT the recipe is gluten free . Does anyone know if I just replace all the assorted flours she uses with the equivalent of my all purpose unbleached??????

My mom always said, you know it is August when the neighbors stealthfully partake in Zuchini drive bys. Lock your doors!
Andrea says
Love it! I wish I were one of your neighbors.

Kind of random but I just had to share… zucchini fruit snacks!! I made them using frozen grape juice and zucchini and my 2 year old loves them. Who knew there was a healthy and cheaper alternative to store bought fruit gummies?! If you’re still looking to use up some zucchini, definitely try it. I used ~2-1/2 lbs of zucchini and ended up with ~8 oz of snacks.
